Well I reached the end of my rope.My slant has been in the works for almost two years and the engine shop keeps telling me a couple more weeks and I stop and nothing else is done.Is there anyone in my area that is very good to compete my project.I would prefere to be able to drive and deliver and pick up the completed engine.I'm in cenral Az.It has been bored, decked, custom pistons.I have the forged crank, all the rotating assembly balanced. The head has been ported cc'd ect..It appears that I have all the parts.I don't want to do it myself because it was being built on the thought of making power and being sprayed hard(150-200 shot).I have a ton of money investsd with all the best parts I could find.Maby Doc needs another project?I've been tring to get it done for Vegas but it appears that ain't going to happen. If it was closer to a stock build I'ld do it myself but this isn't the case. Thanks in advance for your input:cry:

Sounds like the body work on my car. If I had $1 for every time I was told "next week"; a "couple more weeks" or "I'll have it by....." I could afford somebody like Chip or Rad Rides to do it for me! Did you tall them that you weren't in a hurry? That was my mistake. I took my stripped down bare shell of a Volare in for new rockers, square up and weld in my LF rail, put Saf-T-Caps on (I can do that but figured "while it's in there"; don't really "need" with the new rail but knowing that ths was a weak spot on these cars, it wouldn't hurt) and paint the underside with POR 15 and the engine compartment body color-to-be, so I could bring it home for reassembly. I built my own rotisserie for it which it is still in at the body shop. I figured "no hurry" meant that when I took it in Labor day '06 that if I got it back by end of winter/start of Spring '07 I could have been driving it last summer. HE STILL HAS NOT TOUCHED IT!  Don't EVER tell a shop that you aren't in a hurry! 150-200 shot.... Dennis.... you gonna be out there anytime soon?

Do it yourself.
A Hi-Po SL6 engine assembly is no different from a stock build, they all screw together thae same way! (only the parts are different)

The two things to check:
-Degree the cam.
-Mock the head up to the block and check piston to valve and spring retainer / keeper to valve stem top clearances. Do this before doing your final assembly. (mock-up #1 cylinder and degree the cam while doing your clearance checks)

Everything else is "right out of the book".

Well thanks Doc but I got way to much time and money to mess up a bearing clearence (supposedly that's all done).I want to find someone who is familerer with the slant six and make 100% sure it's put together properly. It's been this long and I'm sure that there is someone who can assemble it better then I.I sure am learning to hate this particular machine shop.I have been trying to get it done for the mopars at the strip. If I don't get a reply of someone else to complete this I guess I will have to do it myself.I guess if I made it this far I could finish the motor.I'm really concerned that everything measures OK.This is supposed be a balanced and BLUE PRINTED motor,I know that blue printing envoles carefull measurment of everything.Just one more problem.Keith from 727 Specilites shipped me my reverse valve body tran and Coan convertor and Fed Ex dropped it and broke the ear off the right rear corner of the trans.Sometimes I just don't think it was meant to be.Thanks and I'll keep checking the post,Paul

I've never had any more experience other than the basics of engine maintenance. I checked out my local community college and they offered a "rebuild you muscle car v8" class. I spoke with the teacher and he said there would be no problem with me brining in my slant.

There was even I guy there with a six from a triumph. I had the teachers help with all the questions. the use of all the shops tools. I too had all my machine work done before the class. I helped a guy tear down his 440 and then when everyone else caught up I began assembling my slant. I only ran into a few small glitches but that was because the isky cam I had was well...not quite right...

Look into it...it was much cheaper than paying someone else to do it and it was fun!!...
