No it isn't a slant vehicle, but I am pretty darn sure Dan is going to be able to tell me exactly what is up :)

2000 Dodge Ram. One headlight low beam went, so i bought a new set of (Wagner I think) bulbs. They are the "20% Brighter" kind. I mainly picked them b/c they were American made and the standard bulbs (same manfacturer) wer foregin jobbies.

Installed 'em both. Now on low beam setting I can barely see anything. VERY dim! On high beam it looks about what I would expect on low beam. On both settings, the high beam indicator on the dash is lit up.

What the heck is up with that!?

Chris

My guess: You bought a pair of 9007 bulbs instead of the 9004s your truck requires. They look similar, and they take the same socket, but the polarity and filament orientation are different. See this PDF (yes, I wrote it). The headlamps themselves in all the Rams like yours are godawful, except for the ones in the '99-'01 Ram 1500 Sport, which got an upgraded quad-beam headlamp system. Still not the world's best, but much better than the 9004 junk you're stuck with now. Conversion is possible and doesn't cost as much to do correctly as the Dodge dealer says it does; send me an e-mail via www.danielsternlighting.com if you want more info.

Again, Dan nails it.

Just pulled the package out of the trash. 9007 bulbs. That is what I get for trusting the guys at Advance Auto

Dan I was reading your headlight relay upgrade instructions just last night. I am seriously consindering that for my 73 daily driver. I may email you on the truck at some point too, but it is low on my list.

Again, I appreciate your help. Seems like whatever you say, I can take to the bank.

Thank you,

Chris E.

Try to find GE Night Hawk 9004NH or Philips VisionPlus 9004VP. Those are the "least worst" 9004 bulbs you can get. Avoid any of the tinted bulbs (Sylvania Silver Star, Wagner Tru-View, etc.)

Glad it was an easy fix!
