Here's the basic info: '77 225 Super Six in a '77 Aspen, going from A904 auto to A-833 O.D 4-speed.

I have the trans from a '79 RoadRunner F-body and the BH (and BH parts- pan, shield, clutch fork, and ball pivot) from a '78 Aspen w/the /6.

Now, I've read about the differences in flywheels and clutch sizes in the tech articles, but I have a question or two that was not fully covered in the articles:

From what I read, the larger truck /6 BH will not fit into a car (due to firewall/floorpan clearance issues) without some clearancing. Has anyone tried using the larger truck BH and found the above to be true?

Second, will a flywheel from a '82 Dodge van w/the /6 and A-833 O.D. combo fit inside the car BH I already have? I'm guessing it'd be too big, since vans only used 10" and 11" clutches, but I have no idea if the same diameter flywheel was used for both clutch sizes in vans.

It sounds like my two main options (I'm not wanting to do any firewall/floorpan clearancing) are to find a car 122-tooth flywheel and uses either the stock 9-1/4" car clutch setup or a larger 10" clutch setup.

If I must use the car BH, which year cars can be donors? Any "better" factory installed flywheels to look for, or are they all about the same?

Also, is the crank center hub going to ba an issue? I'm not planning to remove the A-904 until all of the 4-speed parts are ready to install, so I'd like to know if there are issues specific to the crank hub first, if possible.

Whew... TIA

Casey

Dont forget a pilot bushing or bearing. I believe the exchange on the bearing is 97 Dakota w 3.9 v/6.

Does the trans fit the bellhousing you have? Was the Aspen a 3 spd or 4 spd?

Find a car 122-tooth flywheel and uses either the stock 9-1/4" car clutch setup or a larger 10" clutch setup. Read bout 10"clutches in the articles section.

Yeah, I've done the same swap behind the 360 in my van, just not behind a /6..yet.

Yes. it's an O.D. BH with the 5.125" bore.

4-speed, but shouldn't matter, as the BH is drilled for both 3- and 4-speed patterns.

I've read the articles, but my question was not answered after reading them.

I'm looking for someone who has tried to install the truck/van BH in a car and can tell me either how it did or didn't fit.

the truck/van BH used with the 833 OD should be OK, what you DON'T want would be the one with the NP435 (granny low gear) 4 speed.

You can use the flywheel from any of the 1975-1987 trucks/vans with the A-833 OD... they use the same flywheel type as the cars from 1975-1980 (oddly the truck flywheel is a bit lighter having a smaller outer machined ring)...

The way to tell is the truck/van will have the starter mounted in the upper position under the exhaust manifold like the car... the NP435 guy will have the low mount starter like the V-8 (and depending on year can be either side for clutch mounting...)...

The 'bad' part is the later bellhousings (about 1980-81) for the truck use a ball stud retainer for the clutch fork instead of a bellhousing having a plate with a slot for the 'early style' clutch fork... the clutch fork (and Z-bar) for the truck are different (the ears on the z-bar and the fork length are longer) and not easy to adapt to the use in any A/F body...

"Yes I have one set up from a 1981 Dodge Truck... no it's not like the one's in my A-bodies...."
