When switching my 9 inch brake Dodg dart to 10 inch brakes- disk or drum- DO I NEED new upper control arms, lower arms, and bigger ball joints to pull off the switch?? I can get either 10 inch drums or disk brakes for my old car, I just need to know if I need different control arms and ball joints. What is the answer? This will help me make the decision as to which way I should go. thx all-

No, these components are the same. The lower ball joint difference is disc vs. drum brakes, not 9" drum vs. 10" drum. This is assuming your Dart is a 1972 or older model — if it is a 1973 or later, the info may change depending on the year of the car.

Steering knuckles are different for the three systems (9" drum, 10" drum, disc).

If it's the car in your signature, a 68 Dart, then if the donor car is also 72 or earlier then you're good with everything except the spindle, as Dan said. If the donor car is 73 or later then you'll also need to swap out the upper control arms. If you have a choice of disks or 10" drums, I would go with the disks. You would need to swap the master cylinder and add a proportioning valve but the extra bit of trouble is well worth it.

To put 10 inch drums or disc brakes on my 68 dart, and keep the 4 inch bolt wheels? - all I need is a new spindle correct? And when going to disc brakes I need a different master cylinder and prop valve. thx all

The newer spindles will take you to 4.5 inch LBP wheels. I think Scarebird makes a 4inch SBP and I dont know yet on Andys set up.

I have the 10 in drum brakes from a 68 cuda OR the disc brakes from a 72 duster. I must keep the 4 inch bolt wheels because I have two sets, one for summer, one for winter.

Then you will have to use the 68 cuda 10 inch brakes. Others can correct me. But if you limit yourself to those 2 options ( check the 72 disc for 4 piston Kelsey-Hayes set up) I think only the 68 will let you keep the SBP wheels.

The 72 disks are the Kelsey-Hayes 4-piston units with sbp unless someone has previosly swapped in something else.
