Just ripping out devices because they are "emission controls" is not the best way to do it. Think things through, and understand exactly what the devices and systems on your car do before deciding whether to remove this one or that one or any group of them altogether. Get those three books I linked you to in my first response in this thread, and see this post.

Thanks for the knowledge. Yesterday i replaced the factory air box with a larger higher cfm model and a new pcv and valve cover breather. on my engine the vacume line from the distributer runs dirrect to the carb is this normal or has someone all ready modified it. If i purchase an offenhouser 4 brl intake and mount a two brl what else am i required to do for it to run correctly? Thanks everyone and happy easter.

I think you will be disappointed with a 4 BBL intake with a 2 BBL on it. Either go 2 bbl or 4 bbl all the way, carb and manifold.
Just my 02.

Some one modified it. The stock routing has it going to the OSAC valve on the air cleaner. That is one of the mods that helps get consistent vacuum signal to the distributor.

I am switching to a 4 barrel manifold next and will run both two barrel and 4 barrel setups. Some of the guys have done this successfully.

Happy Easter to you! :D

For a daily driver I would take my stock cam and have it reground to a taller profile. That way with the head milling you can use your stock push rods. Everything balances out and you don't have to buy shorter push rods. I had my cam reground to the popular Erson grind, 254 duration and .435 lift. This cost me $35.00 at Delta Cams in Tacoma. I have been running this engine combo for the last two years. Mileage is better than the stock setup and the power gains are amazing.

Some folks on this site prefer the Holley 390 4 barrel, vacuum secondaries and electric choke for best mileage. I have seen posts of 25 MPG or better. I am considering this modification my self since I travel 120 to 130 miles a day with my Dart back and forth to work.

You need to find a good machine shop to do the work on your engine. Ask them who they go to for cam grinding.

Before you do that look at the Erson Cam posts and print out the cam profiles. There is a matrix that has been referenced several times. You need to decide what you want the car to do and pick a cam that will do it.

As an example, the cam I am using (noted below) is known as a RV Cam because it has good torque at low rpms. I am running tall tires in the rear and 2.76 gear ratio for mileage. I built a torque motor that turns low rpms but provides awesome power and good mileage.

You need to find out more about your rear end ratio and decide what makes sense and what meets your needs and balance that with your future plans for the car.
