OK, but don't goof and check the #1 exhaust while trying to find the intake centerline. Done that, wasted some time figuring out how it could be so far off.

Well I searched and contacted JP Preformance. They didn't get back to me.I ordered gears and chain from Rollmaster(I bought one of their balancers, nice piece). There lower crank gear for the Slant Six has 9 keyways cut in it! Should be able to degree the cam in perfectly with that.Lou posted and thought that 108 was to much.We had a custom cam ground just for this engine factoring in comp, rpm, head volume, valves, trans gears ect...I gotta go with what they want.I'm not going to have it Dyno'd.Going to put it in and have it chassis dyno'd because a guy in town has one and we'll tune it there. As always you guys steered me in the right direction.Keep you posted,Paul :D

This is a blatant high-jack but it's really on topic. I was just sorting out my degree #s and it seems really low. Maybe I'm out to lunch on my procedure. Here it goes. Find true TDC; set up the dial indicator on the valve train; zero dial at max. lift and take a reading @ .050 on either side of 0. Add them together and divide by two. This should be the # I'm looking for. My #s were 45 and 139. This comes out to 87. Where did I go wrong.
OK, so you're doing the intake centerline method. Fine. Are you checking #1's intake or exhaust? If that's 87° ATDC I think you're a tooth advanced.
My fourth check revealed that I was in fact out a tooth on the chain. You are the winner of my diagnosis, thanks. that puts me at 106* which seems like good place to be.

Glad that worked out. What did he degree it at?

Pat, 106 is too far retarded for just about any Slant cam. 103 is my personal max for anything I would install, and 100 is more like it for a perf cam. MANY racers have died (lost 1-4 tenths) to bring you this info...
