Either a turbo or a supercharger will end up on my slant. I have gathered so many parts and have changed my plan too many times its time to stop buying things and figure out whats really needed/wanted. I am leaning toward the supercharger and may as well run the Cam already sitting on my self Compcams 264. I have all the used parts to switch to elctronic ignition. I have been looking at MSD's 6BTM PN 6462. I would like to let the ignition do my retarding of the timing instead of addjusting the cam and recurving the dizzy all the time. I am really wanting to build a car I can get in drive across country and race and drive to work everyday. I can get my hands on the 6BTM fairly cheap just need to trade a msd6al to a friend and its mine. Has anyone used this sytem and would it help with the slant?

You could just buy a separate boost retard to work with the 6AL you have.

I have the MSD "boost timing master" #8962. Never could get it to work right. Tach would bounce all over the place. Tried a couple of different tachs. MSD sent me a tach adapter. I sent the unit back , and they sent me another one, and had the same problem. So I have never used it .

Did your tach bounce at all RPM ranges or just down low around 1000 to 1700?

I don't really remember, it was 2 or 3 years ago. I think it was, it would bounce, from about 1,000 to about 2,500 at idle, and if I brought the rpm up, it would bounce higher. I still have the unit here, and could hook it back up in a day or so, to remind me.

Charrlie_S did the unit help with retarding the timing any? or help while under boost? Was the Tach bouncing all over your only problem?

I never ran it on the car. Didn't make any sense to use it, if I couldn't rely on the tach. I will try to get it hooked up again, in a few days, to refresh my memory, as to what it was doing. Time is a little tight right now. I am trying to do enough side jobs, and get my 66 Valiant running where I want it, to go to Farmington NC, in two weeks.

My tach bounces a little than smooths out as RPM comes up. I found that it follows the voltage needle. At slow idle my voltage is around 12.5 and as rpm increases (50rpm more) the volt needle moves up a pinch and little more rpm and up a pinch until it comes up to somewhere around 14volts and then starts ticking. 13, 14, 13, 14, 13, 14, ect from 1100 rpm to redline. The tach gauge will only bounce at the moment the voltage regulator starts limiting the voltage. So if your idle is set around 1050 and your idle is not steady and floats up to 1100 from time to time, the tach needle with bounce most of the time at idle, as mine does.

Just reconnected the BTM module. At about a 1,000 rpm idle, the tach needle has an occasional bounce, upward, about 200 rpm. As I slowly raise the engine rpm, the tach reading raises, but the bounce becomes more pronounced. At what I would guess to be about 2,500 engine rpm the tach is bouncing anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 rpm.

Need to filter that supply or regulate voltage for your tach. Tach needs STABLE supply to function.

Still using original charging design, might want to go electronic regulator and do the 5V modification to your instrument cluster.

Cheers, Wizard

Not the problem. Only change in the system is disconnect the distributer pickup coil wires from the MSD 6A, and plug into the BTM. Then connect the BTM output to the white (points trigger wire) input to the MSD 6A. No other changes. Tach still stays connected to the tach output of the 6A. Tach works fine, without the BTM in the circuit. I even tried shielding the wires froom the dist to the BTM, in case it was picking up inducted voltage from the plug wires, and maybe, being amplified by the BTM.
