I put a new bulb in the glovebox light and hooked it up. When I opened the glovebox, the light did not come on. I took an ohm meter and tested the switch and it appears that is the problem. I even tested an extra switch I had lying around.

The switch is a molded plastic piece slightly larger than a AA battery with a metal piece wrapped around the cylindrical switch at the push button switch end, and the bulb at the opposite end, with the wire to plug in under the dash, coming out of the end with the bulb. I tried to remove this metal piece with no luck. How do you take this apart to clean up the connections inside and get the light to work?

Can you buy working replacement switches? Both of these lights came from eBay. I have not seen this addressed on ss.org.

After playing with the on/off switch by pushing it in and out several times, I took the switch out of the glovebox, grounded the switch area on the frame of the car and put the red wire on the positive battery terminal. The bulb came on. So the switch is working.

This car did not originally came with a glovebox light. I bought the switch and the wire from the hole in the dash is about ten inches long. The end of the wire is cut, so the fastner it plugs into under the passenger side of dash is gone. Can someone tell me where the end of the wire is supposed to plug into the wire harness under the dash. I think it goes in the same area as the turn signal switch to the right of the ash tray and the left of the glovebox.

Check you have a good path to ground between switch body and where it's mounted. You may need to add a ground wire.

Anybody know where it plugs in? Currently I have two parts of the underdash harness that have nothing plugged in it. Is one of these for the glovebox switch?

In my 65 FSM it shows the glovebox light harness l plugging into the lighter wiring. That's hot all the time so that when your glovebox switch is triggered the light comes on anytime.
