Last week, some bonehead rearended my Dart (my son was driving it to school). I don't know if she was talking on the phone, putting on her makeup, or was blind, but the Nissan she was driving was pretty much totaled. Luckily she has insurance and they have accepted all liability.

Her bumper went under mine, so my bumper is a little dinged, the valence is trashed, and my nice, relatively new (11 months old) custom exhaust system is trashed. Not much damage really. I have Dutra Dual exhaust, 2 1/4 diameter pipes, turbo mufflers.

Anyway, my question, the bends in the pipes over the rear axle are pinched from being bent, but they are not closed shut. Can the restriction do any damage to the engine. I was planning on driving it to the body shop for the estimate tomorrow, about 12 miles, of which half is a country road with little traffic.

You should be able to make the trip fine. If it's down on power don't push it. Worst I can see happening is a loss of power and it may run slightly hotter if it's really stopped up. Don't forget, every GM vehicle with a pellet type catalytic converter had restricted exhaust and they lived.

Thanks, even though they would pay for the tow truck (if needed), the time and hassle to involve towing would be very inconvinient.

I agree, keep the speed and load down to minimize heat, but it will be ok. Futher up I would worry, but back there should be ok. Worst case, get a drill bit an drill a couple holes before the spot where it is crunched shut, to help relieve a little pressure. It will sound funny, but will get the job done.
