All EI distributors are gapped at .008 using a brass/nonmagnetic feeler gauge...

If you are using an original mopar performance distributor in a car you will daily drive, stop now, pull apart, replace the springs with a stiffer set (the MP advance is all in at idle...great for a drag car, will not idle at any stop light very well...)

Thanks D.I.
I robbed the springs out of my old points dizzy.
Did an eyeball setting on the reluctor.
Took it for a short run....much improved but still alot of room for improvement
I'll try your recipe using the Mr Gasket set as previously posted at a later date.
I guess I need to look into buying a dial back light.

Only 1 beer and the dizzy on the table in front of me.
20 minutes and I still couldn't get the gap right.

Hmmm.... about .006 sideplay

Trash? Re-bush? (yeah it was a reman)

Or....should I be gapping with it installed?

Basically at this point since remans use a crappy aftermarket reluctor (i.e. one or two teeth are a bit longer than the others...)... find the teeth that are tighter and use them for the .008 and see how things fair over the average... (you nightmare case scenario is gap it using the .010 feeler gauge and see what happens...)

Yes, the wings on the reluctor vary in length, but I've got alot of sideplay in the armature. I was hoping it would resolve when I installed the dizzy and the pinion was locked in place, but I still have movement...at least .006.
That being the case, I could be running a gap of anywhere from .002 - .014
Re-bush the dizzy or???

Just did a search and found this thread cause I am re doing my dist and didnt know the gap needed. My shaft has no side play but I found the gap different on all of them.I put a piece of 150 sandpaper between magnet and reluctor and closed it to touch on highest one, spun till it was clear.Spent about 1/2 hr spining with sandpaper in between,They are all the same now.Going to set my gap to .004.Guzzi Mark
