In a heads up race, probably not without major modification( I have a friend who races Honda/Acura's at the drags and his civic pulls down a 12 second 1/4 religiously, and he drives it to work...).... during brackets where it's driver vs. driver with the handicap, yep can be done...

Way too many variables involved to make a decent guess. Driver ability, tuning ability, car condition, modifications, etc.. Maybe yes, maybe no.

I have sent many fast and "unknowing" import cars home during dial-in bracket races with a "slow and steady" SL6 car.
You just have to cut a good light and run a consistant number.

stephaniebrite77,

At the Chrysler tour they mentioned the only thing available today "new" are the Hooker Headers part number 5602HKR or the HOK-5602-1HKR (ceramic coated) that Summit Racing sells that come close. Those with at least a 12" collector (16" was better) would tap into the low end torque. They said you could either bring them together into one 2.25" pipe or run a "X" and 2" duals.

Clifford used to make a long set, but have dropped them from their line. Once in a while you see them on eBay. The short ones Clifford sells are suppose to be universal and fit a wide variety of automobiles, but favor upper midrange rpms.

The point being, by tuning for the low end torque one could get better mileage and use taller gears and/or overdrives and still have a very spunky engine. The other part of the equation would be choosing the correct cam design that Doctor Dodge has been working on. I am not sure which one of Doc's new designs provides the most low end torque. At the time I rebuilt mine he suggested I regrind my stock cam to a taller lift and advance the cam at least 4 degrees. So that's what I did and went for the 2.25" exhaust system with a free flowing muffler for now. My car used to be a slug. Now it is allot more fun to drive and get's allot better mileage despite my aggressive driving habits.....and with the extra torque I can run a taller gear ratio and taller tires on wider rims which provide better stability on the winding back country roads along the foot hills on the way to work. Some day I will try the Hooker Headers with my engine build to see how much more torque I can get.

:D

Hey Jason,

If you have 2.76 gears like a lot of those cars do, it will hurt your acceleration. I would suggest verifying your gear ratio and consider stepping up to 3.23 or 3.55 if you are looking to get off the line pretty quickly.

Whatever you do, please be safe and keep your racing on a race track! One of the stupidest things I did when I was your age was street race.
