Going to resurrect a 67 /6 Valiant, non-running for 15 years. The radiator is trashed - but I have a clean one from a 69 Valiant parts car. The hose snouts (yeah, technical term, I know) are in different spots - any suggestions for upper & lower hoses? Anything else I'm missing?

I really don't want to spend again on a new radiator what I'll be spending on the silly '67 sideways-strapping gas tank...

Thanks,
Scott in TX

hey Scott,

I had kind of a similar situation on my 68 Val. (V8 eng though)

this was my solution: A piece of tailpipe bent to the shape I needed.

Clever use of the tail-pipe. Stainless steel would probably be even more suited for this--did you press in a ridge at the end of the pipe?

I am running a v8w/ A/C, extra capacity radiator in my Valiant. It has the lower outlet in the correct location but it is a larger diameter than the slant rad. I had to use one of those plastic emergency repair sleeves that was right for the larger hose and then armorall the smaller hose, threaten, and swear at the smaller hose and force it to fit. The top inlet is off to the side so I just measured and bought a flex hose.

I just put an aluminum radiator speced for a GM motor. The bottom had a large hose but we cut it off and welded on the correct size. Top hose is off to the side so I put a straight water neck (somone on this sites suggestion) and went thru the parts guys hoses to find one that worked, just needed a little trim.
I put in the 180 degree thermostat as recomended and the car is cool, near the bottom edge of the center area of the gauge, is this a good temp?

Yeah stainless would have been better. I just used mild steel.

I didn't have the ability to put a ridge in at the ends. It would have been nice to be able to. If my welding skills were any good i guess I could have laid a bead around the outside, but then, my welding skills SUCK  :D

It has been running this way for the past year now and has worked great!

Nice work in any case...I take it that you have the ability to bend pipes like that? Or did you mock up what you needed and have a muffler shop do it? I have some lumbing work to do on my Land Rover and this looks like the way to do it...

I also like your creativity/engineering!:D
I have a '78 Volare with a slant six. Years ago, I pulled a radiator out of a '78 Volare station wagon with a 318. I had a radiator shop move the top outlet (inlet?) to the other side as well as clean it out. It has worked great for over ten years here in South Texas. The only other mod is The upper hose isn't stock, I just have to eyeball the hoses at a parts store and trim a bit. No biggie...

No, I just built a mock up and took it to the mom and pop shop down the road. I think that piece ended up costing me $7 or so by the time it was said and done.

Sure would be nice to have a pipe bender wouldn't it?! Maybe someday......
