Hey folks--does anyone know if a regular guy wiper switch (off/lo/hi) can be replaced with a off/delay/lo/hi switch? I imagine the plug and all is the same, and just the switch and of course the panel/dash housing) is different.

The application is a 1982 D150--I have the dash panel "housing" for the switch with a delay, but sadly the wrecking yard vehicle had been pillaged of its switch with the intermittent feature. I am browsing Rockauto and others to see if I can figure out if it is just a switch swap--might have to hit the wrecking yard and pay attention to the switch plug design if no one chimes in with an answer... Should have looked when I was there...sigh....

Looking through the '82 truck FPC, it appears you'd need the switch, wiring, and motor to convert from regular 2-speed wipers to 2-speed + intermittent.

There are good aftermarket intermittent-wipe modules on the market (there are bad ones, too) that interface with the existing non-intermittent wiring and motor.

Motor too? Hmmm, that is interesting! I can't think of an electrical reason why that is the case but it is what it is--might need to raid the wrecking yard again and look at an aftermarket intermittent doohickey.... I was hoping for a plug and play answer, alas...

Thanks for the lookup Dan!

Many of our Tidewater Mopar Club giveaway cars were 2sp/3sp mixtures cobbled together from various sources; but it was very involved to get them to work right. You have to understand *exactly* how both worked for your model, then carefully plan how to hybridize them. Beware that parts (esp. the 2sp motors) that look alike on the outside may be wired differently on the inside. I wouldn't recommend this for the novice, but it can be done. I'm willing to reconsider whether it should have been done, but in the end it worked fine.

Well, have to see if I can make it to the junkyard and look at the two trucks there--one has three speed wipers, one has two speed wipers--if it isn't too painful I will remove the important parts off the three speed and see what it looks like compared to the two speed. Oh well, fun with trucks and all that. If it looks like I will have to hang upside down too long I will just leave the parts there and walk away...blood rushing to my head and all that...
