I have been away from working on cars since I sold my 1968 GTO to my brother for $300 in 1978. He drove it for 4 years and sold it for $800.
(I just looked up it's value today...$71,000) Who would have thought it??
Anyway...thats just water under the bridge.
I just aquire two classic cars from an estate sale.
A 1978 Volare Super Six and a 1967 V8 Dodge Coronet.
Both cars are in excellent condition, 100% stock and untampered with, low millage, one owner, garaged and cover. Kind of like a dream discovery.
I am going to restore the Volare to peak original condition. All it really needs is a paint job and tune up but only because I don't like the factory mint green color. Both cars have original factory paint, no body damage and almost no rust. My question to the forum is this. If you guys found a car as cool as this Volare Super Six what would you do with it. I am going to keep it for mysef for my daily ride And I want to go totally stock original but should I do any upgrades to the engine or anything else or just restore to 100% original condition? When I paint it should I stay with an original 1978 Volare color or would it be Sacrilegious for me to go with a different color?
Other that that, does anyone know anybody that might be interested in the 1967 Dodge Coronet V8 or can you give me some advice on how to sell this classic car?

I would say it has to do with Karma, finding these two neat cars after having sold your neat GTO way back when. This is just my opinion...if the Volare becomes a driver and changing the color is your preference than go for what suits you. I, my opinion, would leave the Coronet original. Now about the Coronet :!: , would the engine displacement be 426?? and if so when can I come to see it and possibly make an offer. :)

I have not had a chance to take a good look at the engine on the Coronet but if it was a Hemi I would have to keep it for myself. It's most likely a good engine but the great thing is that a Hemi would just drop in without and modification. It is a four door. If you are still interested let me know and we can meet. John

I'm not in the financial position to be buying "nice" cars, but I do keep my eye on such things. The Coronet is probably not worth a giant pile of money, even if it has a 440 (which is likely doesn't, it's probably a 383 2v). It's the 4 door that's hurting you. If it's truly a low-mile "survivor" I suggest you don't touch a thing on it. Don't even wash it. You'll hurt the value by doing ANYTHING to it. If you intend on keeping it and driving it, then by all means drop a hemi into it. Or not. I would guess that a 4 door 68 Coronet with under 30,000 miles is probably worth a tick over $10,000 at the most. That's a complete guess on my part.

A totally unrestored low mileage Volare is probably worth maybe $5000. I mean....Volare....that pretty much says it all. Were it me, I wouldn't be afraid to do silly things with it. But keep it a slant, THAT's what makes it cool.

Thanks for your input kipamore.. It is helpful and right on what I was thinking.
The Volare is just a Volare so I can do whatever I want for fun without messing up a "high value" classic. I will keep the super six for sure. I was reading others on this forum wanting to upgrade their slant to a super six so it must be pretty hot for a six. I will fix her up and run it stock for a while and see if it feels like it needs a super charger and fuel injection to give it more kick. I am very tempted to put on a hood scoop and rear spoiler just for kicks. That will be deviating a bit from pure original but what the heck, why not. By the way...Does anyone have any advice on painting or dying a vinyl top. Mine is white and I want it black.
If I don't find a buyer for the 67 Coronet I will drop in a Hemi just for fun. The 383 is a great engine and can be beefed up pretty good for street driving but then again it ya got a car that is made for a Hemi ya got to go for it. Who dont want to have a Hemi car?

Good finds. Almost any paint colour looks terrific if the paint's in nice new condition. It's much harder and much more costly to get a "nice new condition" quality appearance when changing the colour, compared to staying with an original or near-original colour. See this post for more.
