Cool deal Charlie! :D
Yep. Just installed it, and lost 7 lbs of ugly starter. Now I still need to find out why it has the misfire on spray. Only 1 week till the Georgia slant race.

As stated in a prior post, I had a misfire on nitrous, at Farmington, NC.

I took the complete nitrous system apart and cleaned everything. Didn't see anything wrong. Put it all back on, including the second stage.

Went to the Georgia race and still had the nitrous misfire during the Friday test and tune.  Ran on motor only during Saturday Slant Six race. Norm put me out in the semis. Car was doing 14.4's in the 1/4 and 9.1's in the 1/8 mile. Sat after the race, I started looking for the misfire, again. Here is a good lesson: "always look at the basics". I had 34 degrees total timing, and zero initial.  That is a bit much for a N/A motor, but wouldn't work at all on nitrous. The distributor must have had the weights not all the way out when I first set the total. I was able to get away with it on the stock head and a small shot of N2o but not with 2 points more compression from the milled head. Got an old distributor, and epoxied the slots in the governor, and installed it at 22 total. The track let me make one time shot on Sunday morning, without having to pay for a tech card, to see if the misfire was gone. Ran with cold fluids, and did not purge the nitrous, and put down a 13.41 at 96.20 mph, with no misfire. I think that is my quickest pass so far. I did hit the second stage for about 1 second after the finish line, just for a test. It did work. Next time out will try the second stage in high gear.

Weighed the car on the way back from the nitrous pass and it was 2670 lbs, with me in it.

Good deal Charlie! That car is running! I wish I were closer so I could set up in car video and put it on-line. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see that run!

I hope I can put this in the 12.'s without breaking parts. The best thing about this car, is/was the small budget. I am still under $2,000, for everything. Added a $200 paint job, to make it a little presentable, Slantzilla lent me the nitrous plate, I am using for the second stage, and I spent about $125 for fittings, and braided line to hook it up. Going to have to buy some new slicks soon, and that will hurt.
I didn't even know if the nitrous would work, the way it is hooked up. Offie manifold, then a 100 hp fixed plate, then a 1 1/2 inch carb spacer, then adjustable nitrous plate (75 hp), then a Holley 390 carb. First stage is on a full throttle micro sw, and the second stage is on a "line lock" button, on the shifter.

Glad to hear you found the problem Charlie. :D

I've been doing a little reading and have found that if you add stages they should be leaner than what a single stage would be. Don't know if that applies in the little shots we use or not though.

Finally got around to fixing my distributor. Took it apart and found a 15 governor in it. Weld up the slots and filed them. With the distributor reinstalled, I have 13 degrees initial and 25 total. That gives me 12 degree centrifugal. We'll try that and see how it works. Planning on doing another dist with about 15 degrees centrifugal. Then I can swap at the track for a back to back comparison.

Also did a alternator up grade to the 90 amp NiponDenso from a 89 Dakota PU. $15 at a salvage yard. While doing the install, wired the alternator field circuit with a relay, controlled by a wide open throttle switch. This switch turns on the nitrous, and now, also, turns off the alternator, at WOT. $8 for the relay and "pig tail socket".

Started the next project. Got the old major fogged, and scratched windshield out, this morning. Brand new windshield will be here, tomorrow morning. Will put that in tomorrow, and then I will be able to see the tree at night. Maybe I can be a threat at Wilkesbborro.

New windshield is in. Total cost, $190 for the windshield, including tax. Gave a friend at a body shop $40 for his help. This is no longer a "low" budget project, but still not bad. Just doing some "extras" as the wallet allows.

Went to a Wed TNT. Made one pass, and had a major misfire. There is no hood on the car, and went through a couple major rain storms, on the way to the track. Before I got a chance to see if I had wet ignition parts, the skies opened, big time, and they canceled the meet.

The carb is a Holley 390 vac sec. The engine still has a misfire, and I have not tried the second nitrous stage, yet. I have not had a lot of time to work on it, and it only misfires on a track run. I can do a first to second gear burnout, with no problem, or a WOT stall test without a misfire. The car leaves the starting line just fine, but starts to misfire about 60 feet out. I'm wondering if I have a fuel pickup/delivery problem. The fuel system is totally stock from the tank to the engine compartment, with the exception of a Holley blue pump at the rear frame rail. Today I am going to pull a fuel cell and coil of 1/2 inch aluminum fuel line down from the rafters (before I put another car in the shop). I will try to get the cell and line installed, within the next couple of weeks.

Sounds good, Charlie. Look forward to hearing more progress on the 66. It was nice to finally see it in person.
