Just got my 65 back togather. Replaced the sheet metal front end. Rebuilt the Stock carter carb. Replaced the elect eng dist. Motor has typ exhaust manfold leaks l will take care if that soon and it may be the root of the problem.

Car drives well but when ever I come to a stop the torque converter pulls the motor down to like 300 RPM before the RPMs return to normal idle. Could the converter be too tight? The trans fluid is bad and I will change that as time permits.

Thanks

i think you touched on it, yourself. I'd change that fluid and filter sooner than later.

The float level could be a little off, causing the idle to "dip" when you stop.
The float could be to high or low, I would try lowering it first, to see if anything changes.

If I slow down but do not stop no problem until I lug the motor down to a stop. So IMHO it is not carb related.
