Yep, Frank called and said he is leaving on thursday.
I found a driver for my second car, but he has to work on Friday, so he will be getting there with the Cuda Sat morning. I have to drop it at his house Thur after work. Looks like we are over 10 cars and getting near 15.

Heard from Erik (mpgFanatic), last night. He just got into Jacksonville Florida from Calif, and is planning on being there with his 64 Valiant.
Yep, 'tis true. I just rebuilt the silly 1-Bbl Carter yet again yesterday... the only thing it needed was an accelerator pump diaphram that had apparently dried out, and it didn't occur to me to just soak it in something. Oh well, carb gasket kits aren't all that expensive, and if buying another one sent the appropriate signal to the manufacturers not to discontinue making them, so much the better.

Looking forward to driving there Saturday morning, making my traditional one or two 20-second passes down the strip, getting beat by anybody who's more consistent (not hard, since most everyone else is running an automatic transmission) and then heading home again. :? Almost not even worth the gas money, but it's nice to support the event and all the work Charrlie has put into it. And to say hello to a few friends.

- Erik

PS. Attending just one race per year, I can never remember what number I put on the window in shoe polish last time... but they tell me it doesn't matter much. Should I advertise the "170" this time, or maybe I'll use "340" in order to give the Moparheads a good laugh?

Yee ha! My hat's off to Norm Foster-- he can write 11.78 on the window, and then run an exact 11.78 down the track. Total consistency. And enough for the win last night. Good job!

I managed one time trial at 19.43, then started eliminations right next to Norm... yea right. Didn't stand a chance. Couldn't "hear" my tachometer, and shifting on the column is ridiculous even when I can. Had no clue what the car would run, but 19.43 is faster than anything I'd ever seen yet, so I shrugged and put 19.42 on the window. The track hooked up well-- no spinning or chirping the one P185R13 tire at all. Seeing Norm coming up on me in a great big hurry, I figured I'd still cross the line first even by lifting the throttle... a fact he noticed right away despite my "Sunday Driver" status... Imagine my surprise when I broke out with a 19.06, despite lifting. Wish I'd stayed in it, just to find out what it'll do. Ah well, there's the problem with running on a track only once per year.

Charlie had called me from the track Friday night, wanted to try a different ignition curve. I brought a spare distributor, then he worked on the slots with epoxy this morning to lock the weights in place, set it at 24 degrees. That cured the high-end misfire enough to try nitrous, and he successfully pulled off a time trial this morning of 13.41 @ 96mph... then found out it would cost $70 to run Pro for the day. Ouch. Well, always good to learn something about the car, I guess.

What a great treat to meet so many helpful folks, to get a chance to find out more about the Slant Six racing community. Hanging out under a tent at about the 1/2 track location, out of the sun and enjoying the breeze, several of us playing with laptops to a gentle background noise of open exhaust pipes roaring past every minute or so... a pretty good relaxation day!

Just a quick, update. Will post more later.
We had a great weekend. 14 slant six cars entered, for a shot at the $1300 purse, and every car made 1st round.

Norm Forster beat Ron Parker in the final, with a .009 light and a 11.784 on a 11.78 dial. That is a tough package to beat.
Congrats to Norm, and a well done to Ron.

That's awesome! 14 cars is a great turnout! Thanks to everyone who supported the race and congratulations to Norm.

We had several new slant racers, and I talked to a couple of other possible future racers. The track really "talked" up the Slant Six racing, and the people in the stands were really interested in watching the slants and talking about them.

I would really like to thank the racers who came out and supported this event. As many know, I was really dissapointed after last year.
A HUGH amount of thanks to these sponsors.

You gotta add that to the Best Times thread in SL6 Race Results! :D

That's a great improvement!

For those of you who raced in Valdosta you can go to SGMP on the internet and pick South Georgia Motorsports web site and look at all the racers pictures.
