heh, sounds kinda like what I did with my exhaust.... kinda but not really close at all. I had a crack all the way around the manifold and had to weld it back together with a stick welder (all I had access to) and the flap inside the manifold never worked very well after that so I just welded it in place. takes a bit longer to warm the carb up enough to idle without the manual choke I rigged up but it works very well. I also saw a 2 mile per gallon increase in efficiency after that too.
