HEY ALL

YES ITS the black sheep again ,,, i have just ordered a set of solid lifters for my slant ,, there is only one type that i know of the bar bell style , but the spare parts guy said" the only listing in the books are for a straight sided style ??? will this stuff up my slant ... and is there run in i have to do on starting up my slant after changing them ..

while i ve got the head off to do the vavle stem seals i am planing on polishing the combustion chambers and tidying up the bowl areas .. not done on my head after i fitted the over sized vavles .. and de shrouding the vavles as well ...

yours the black getting dirty this week end ... i will attach pictures after i am done .. :D

Of the Slant motors I have taken apart. The original lifters are the "barbell" style, while the ones that come with the new aftermarket camshafts (CompCams) are the smooth side ones. It does seem that their would be better oiling if they were the barbell style. Just my uninformed oppinion. :roll:

The original lifters are the barbell style, most aftermarket ones are barbell, but comp cams are smooth sided...

The difference being that the comp cam lifters are a bit heavier, and if you're using a very high lift cam the chances of the lifter popping out over the lip of the barbell might be greater, so the smooth sided versions will stay straight in the bores....

If you want good oiling in the lifter areas have your machinist grove the bores with a grooving tool before honing the bores (if it's a full length groove it will allow the oil to dribble on the cam lobe)

All the cams I have run used the straight sided lifter. It is a 340 lifter, that's all, no magic. :lol: :shock:

Most of the aftermarket lifter you get these days are the straight sidded ones and they work just fine.
As noted, the "bar-bell" type lifter is still out there in the parts system and I grab them for HP engines, that will spin some RPM, just because those lifters are a few grams lighter.

I noticed that when I went to degree the cam in my 360. I dropped a Slant Six lifter in the hole and it was a perfect fit. Although the 360 is a hydraulic set up.

both intake and exhaust are 400" lift at vavle
IN. 32/68
EX.73/33
280 intake dur 228 @.050"
286exhaust dur 234 @ .050"

yours a little lumpier the black sheep

Pretty much all the mopar lifters are the same diameter... if you want a set of roller lifters you can grab them out of a magnum V-8, you can even grab a set of lifters from the old AMC V-8's too...
