My trans on my new combo is acting bad. It is a lock-up type '83 vintage from a passenger car. I test drove with this unit before I pulled it and it seemed O.K. I removed the pan, adjusted the bands and installed a new filter. The KD linkage seems to be in order and comes to a near complete stroke at wide open throttle. The issue is a "flare-up"between the 2-3 shift. Last night I dropped the pan to see if the throttle pressure valve had dropped out, it had not. The fluid was dark and there was more clutch material in the pan than I wanted to see. I removed the valve body and gave it a little cleaning. The 1st/R band was very loose so we readjusted it. We then went for a test drive to find that it was still doing the same thing under light to med throttle or the 2-3 shift would almost happen simultaneously. On a side note, from a stop at WOT (in the rain) the shifts were near perfect. That was really fun by the way. So is it replacement time or should I keep flogging this dead horse.

Thanks, Pat.

In a side bar, what are we calling this trans? I don't believe it falls under A-904 anymore.

It's still an A904.

Given the state of the fluid (dark/gritty) and the rapid loosening of previously-adjusted bands, I'd say you've got a fine candidate for a trans rebuild on your hands (or in your car).

Kind of what I thought. My Chrysler dealership seemed to think that it may be an A-413. But without the serial # from the car or trying to find a stamping on the pan rail, I'm at a loss. How do you feel about Trans Star kits? Here is the one I was looking at if it is indeed an A-413 but it only come with the front band, as do most kits.

BTW, how do I make this jumbo link fit in a single command?

Sufferin' succotash! Hope you're not relying on those jokers for anything but parts specified by part number. The A413 is a front-drive 3-speed automatic transaxle.

At a loss to do what?

No opinion, never heard of them.

Not sure I know what you're asking, but you will likely find the answer here.

Oh I love those dealership parts guys. I generally never call them unless I've already found my part #s and it still doesn't always work out. I was at a loss to confirm what trans I was wanting to order parts for but now I see the light. You can see my kit here. Ha ha, you made me learn something.

I know, that's like here's your new car but you have to buy the fourth wheel somewhere else. Can you suggest any other trans over haul kits?

I second the recommendation to get the rebuild kit and parts from Pat Blais.
