Is a Lokar kick down cable and a Holley SRK-4000 adapter kit a good way to restore my 904 to normal function from reverse valve body hell?

I plan on either having my existing unit rebuilt, or purchasing a transmission from Summit or other outlet which ever makes the most $ & cents. I know I need a new valve body, tail bushing, and first gear is not right, so a complete rebuild is most likely needed.

In the past I have not had good luck with local rebuilders, they always leave some worn part in to cause trouble later on.

Any recommendations for a supplier of a slant six compatable 904.

You may want to start with replacing the Valve Body with a unmolested 'stock' one, and see how the trans responds to that.
What year are you working with?

Sorry to take so long to respond, been out of town on a honeymoon reenactment...

Dan's thread dose seem like the cheep way to go with "late-model" parts. We don't have a pick & pull any where near here, and the nearest junk yard is a hundred miles away... I'll give'em a call.

I know I'm missing the lever/arm that this linkage hooks up to on the trans. Dose the later transmission's kick down lever fit the 904?

Doc., my plan was to purchase a new stock valve body, and have it installed. I have never done any more complex service on an automatic than change oil & filter once a zillion years ago.

As for fabing up brackets, and assembling the linkage or cable I can manage that. My concern is that there are internal issues that need to be addressed with my existing transmission, one being the tail shaft bushing. I don't think I can handle that replacement.

If after replacing parts in my existing transmission, and I'm with in a few hundred bucks of a new unit, that new unit path starts to look like a better option.

If you need a valve body I have a '71 vintage unit laying around. I'm all the way across the country from you, but the valve body may just fit in a $12.95 USPS Flat Rate box.

The tailshaft bushing you can't replace yourself, but you can pull the tailshaft housing yourself and take it to someone who can put in a new bushing. Having the valve body out even helps tail housing removal.

The throttle pressure levers for the transmission come in different lengths which are important to getting the motion ratio between the carburetor and transmission correct. If the motion ratio isn't correct adjustments are problematic and function is compromised.

There must be a date code on the transmission, where would one find it? And, how dose one determine the correct length of the throttle pressure levers?

The trans ID is stamped on the housing's oil pan rail just above the oil pan flange itself:

When you ask about the throttle pressure levers, are you talking about the external lever connected to the kickdown linkage, also shown in this photo?

Dan,

Thanks for the location tip.

Transmission number is: PK4028463X 5612 Using http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/transguide.pdf

Decodes to:
76-77 Aspen, Dart, Valiant, Volare

The external upper "throttle pressure lever" is missing form my transmission.
