I was at Norwalk, OH on Friday for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. I think it was during one of the Comp Eliminator qualifying sessions that I heard the announcer say that one of the cars was powered by a slant six. I didn't catch the name of the driver, however. Since the car was in the 8 sec 1/4 mile range I was very interested to say the least. Does anyone know who this could have been? The official list of participants is listed here: http://www.nhra.com/2008/events/race12/elcomp.html
The MPAR 201 engines listed for two of the drivers, I'm guessing, are the midget-type 4 cyl engines. The only other engine remotely close to a slant six displacement is a 301 cu. in. engine in John Peto's car. I know for sure that the car that went down the track had an inline 6 cyl engine. I'm hoping the announcer didn't mistakenly say the car had a slant six when it really had a Chevy straight six. In any case, any help figuring out whose car this is would be greatly appreciated.

Shaun

There was a thread on Moparts a while ago about a one-off aluminum motor a guy was building for Comp. At some point it was mentioned to be Slant based, but sure didn't look like it in the pictures he posted. He did not give the customer's name, but I am pretty sure he was off the west coast.

There are a lot of 4 and 6 cylinder combinations in Comp though, and a lot of them are real fast, and realllll $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Last competitive Mopar inline 6 in CE that I recall was based on a 4.0 Jeep motor. That may be what Petro's car has. Announcers get info off the screen, he sees Mopar 301 and it's obvious it's a inline 6, assumes it's a slant 6. Same thing happens in Stock & Super Stock with Max Wedge racers, info has motor listed 426 and announcer assumes it's a Hemi.
