I pulled out my points dist last night, and spent a couple hours lengthing wires and rounting/ mounting my new ignition......and now the car wont start.(yes it ran before) was wondering if anyone else as run this ignition...or ad a prob.Talked to Doug last night, and he said Mark had this one.....I will go out this morning( WAY less frustrated after some sleep) and redo the connections.Chime in if you have advice I may use.

Why not just do it this way (or any of many other ways) with common, inexpensive parts of a known-sound design rather than taking a leap of faith on Summit's house-brand stuff which has zero local availability for repair parts if/when it fails?

Alot of the summit brand stuff is reboxed mr. gasket stuff. I just bought a summit line lock at a local speed shop. for $80 they had opened it up and laughed because its exactly the same as the 150$ hurst one they have on the shelf. it comes with the hurst instructions! only difference is it comes in a plain white box. and doesn't have a hurst sticker on it. cant speak for the ignition kidd bought but it's not all cheap stuff.

One thing I have noticed is the points distributor is very tolerant to slop... you probably have already done it, but if you haven't check how tight your timing chain it too... I have had problems in the past when going from point to EI, and it all came down to the points distributor can take a 6-8 degree variation in chain slop and the EI won't... hopefully its just
a few connections....

Thanks all.....Dan, the HEI was going to be my backup, because the Summit has the revlimiter, and electronic all in 1 that I wanted.....I have had great success running Summit brand stuff,I am not scared about the leap of faith....Headed out now.DI, I can trigger the ignition w/ a piunts dizzy it says.....so if I cant get the electronic to work, will try eliminating a cause or twwo that way.

Don't be so sure. Go look at this auction. See the Bosch typeface, the Bosch logo, and the Bosch ballasts with "MADE IN GERMANY" on them? All of that is counterfeit. 100% fake. It's all trash from China. One of the pictures in the auction has the source URL in it, http://www.boschhid.com . Go there and see what you see. Look, you can get your counterfeits in different flavours: You can have 'em in a box that just plain rips off the Bosch name and trademark, or you can have 'em in a box that says "BOSOH" instead of "BOSCH" (funny how that second "O" would be a "C" if you just whited-out a small section of it). And those ballasts certainly do look exactly like real Bosch ones. They're actually cruddy copies, but they do look exactly right.

As for the Hurst instructions...well, Hurst doesn't own the world's only printing press or photocopy machine.

It pays to think very carefully before you assume whatever cut-price whitebox part you're looking at is actually what you assume/guess it is. Especially these days. The dollars you think you're about to save have to come out of somewhere, and it's not all out of packaging costs.

The race car is up and running. I had the small red wire going to the ignition toggle. It didnt like tat I guess. I connected it to the lead I had origionally going to the coil from the switch, and viola,it fired up.So I resoldered, and shrink tubed all my connections, and now I have electronic ignition.I will time it today, when it gets a bit later.....open headered drag car running on Sunday morning attracts attention.
Thanks again for the help....and Geez Dan, How are we going to try to avaoid counterfits if people are copying most all the labels corectly? I do some research on what I bid on......bit sometimes I cant dig to deep in the time allowed.

The summit boxes are the same as the ones Mallory sells, with a slightly different extruded case.

I have had a Mallory 6A on one of my cars for years, at least 50,000 miles and it has been a great ignition so far.

But, things change. Maybe they are still the same and maybe not.

I just got an MSD blaster coil to run with an HEI on our slant, just the plain 8202 and it has a made in China sticker on the bottom!

For our slant the HEI, or a working mopar orange box is all it will really need. I have personally had two of the orange boxes fail in no time on two different cars (they were well grounded) so it is HEI for me.

Yeah, I felt like throwing it when I saw the sticker. I can see myself on the side of the highway already.

Maybe it's time for a "NOS" search for coils too. I suppose the old Accel Super stock coils are the same story.

Any thoughts on a decent E-core coil other than Delco?

Go take a fresh look at the see HEI upgrade instructions. I've removed the MSD Blaster recommendation and gone in another direction with coil recommendations. Don't know where Accel are having their stuff made any more, but I would want some good answers to specific questions before I'd buy their stuff, having had nothing but idiotic doubletalk from them when we were chasing the good ignition rotors. Mallory make various E-core coils...

Summit doesn't build any of their house brand items - some are sourced from companies that make knock-offs in China, while they've confirmed others are American made but won't say where in their literature. There's a few that have been traced back to their source, and the results have been - literally - all over the map.

Here's a few examples where the source is known or pretty certain. Of course, they may have changed suppliers by now.

CDI boxes that started this thread - It's confirmed that they are American made and I'm 99.5% certain by Mallory.

Adjustable proportioning valve - Willwood valve with Summit logo silk screened onto it, at least at the time I bought one.

Manifolds - Appear to be Proform, a Chinese made knock off of Edelbrock.

Wideband O2 system - An Innovate LC-1 paired with a gauge of unknown origin.

Cone filters - Appear to be K&N but may be a cheap knock-off.

Their house brand parts are a grab bag. Some of the items they have are the same quality as a top brand, others have been pretty bad. I'm not going to use their AN hose fittings ever again, for example. I suspect many of their house brand products are in fact from Proform.

I have a mallory 6A on my duster. Its a great piece. Way better than the stock mopar performance type ignition that was on the car.
