do any of you electronic gurus know if it is possible for X ray equipment to damage electronic ignition equipment or electronic stuff in general as it passes the postal services X ray machines?

A normal X-ray, such at airport screening, shouldn't hurt most electronics; tens of thousands of laptops go through their machines every day.

However, the US post office sometimes uses Xrays to sterilize suspicious packages - that will certainly seriously damage or destroy nearly all electronics. The latter pretty much destroys paper too.
