You can also do partial dividers like on some dual-plane manifolds................

I covered that to a small extent. Cutting down or putting hole in the divider will make the manifold act more like a single plane. It will tend to shift the operating RPM up and can be used to cut low end torque which can be helpful if the car has traction problems at the starting line. The same is true for an open spacer on a divided manifold.

It's 3 in the morning I just came in from playing with my Offy. Is that a Clifford up there in the pics?

Tt needs a connection from one side to the other doesnt it ? Even if just a small hole or it may have idling problems because of uneven vacuum. Its my understanding that this is why duel plane intakes have the little cut out in the divider or they want idle proper.

They way you are doing yours it want be no problem to remove it and add a hole though. So it can hurt to try it that way but this is why intakes like the big long cross ram manifolds like Mopar had on the old 413's had a hose that connected the two sides together. I had one of these settups and without the connection between the two idle just could not be achived.

The Offy duel intake has the little crossover to balance each side so it idles good.

The slant intake is a short ram right? Part of the reason it slants? Longer runners?

If that were true then 3 cylinder engines wouldn't idle well. My brother's K75 idled just fine, but then again is was EFI.

V8s with 90° cranks have uneven firing impulses on one bank of cylinders. This is why V8s sound like they do, why 180° headers cross from one bank to the other and why that crossover is important.

Maybe.

I dont know what a K75 is, or how a three cylinder is set up.

But if the problem comes up, you will know where to look. With the divider being removable it should be easy to do something about if it was to happen. If not,, your good to go then :D

A K75 is a 3 cylinder BMW motorcycle. The engine is actually laid on it's side and has individual throttle injection.

would there be a benefit to adding a divider to a 2 barrel intake manifold?

Everyone reading this thread make sure you also read DusterIdiot's "Let's Get It On!!!!". I think someone mentioned earlier that this subject would make a great article and I agree. The article could also include repositioning your 4bbl for better fuel distribution and the great debate over primaries toward engine or away!

No, its not necessary to have any connection at all because the front and rear halves of an inline six are both even-firing themselves (just like two 3-cylinder engines hooked end-to-end). You could have one 3-cylinder intake manifold on the front cylinders fed by its own carb, and a second 3-cylinder intake manifold on the rear 3 cylinders fed by its own carb.

No, the little cut is there to get the best of both worlds. It gives a bit more power at high RPM than a completely divided manifold would, without giving up too much low end.

Make a valve in the divider.......

At low rpm it's solid.

At high rpm it opens up for power.
