Let's see - ABS sensors, separate subframe that unbolts, unequal length control arms - I'm guessing this is from a Mazda Miata.

Sorry, not from a Miata. The wires at the top of the shocks are for the adjustable damping. This is the right width for an A-body with some modern positive offset wheels like my Mustang Mach 1 wheels.

I've had others guess Mercedes 190, Mustang Cobra and T-Bird/Lincoln. None of which are correct.

Not German, sorry. No one has won the dollar yet!

I'm happy no one has guessed Corvette or Jaguar. Most of those used the drive axles as the upper control arms. Not a design feature I desire.

The 318ti like a lot of Datsun/Nissan cars has semi-trailing armsthat cause significant camber change throughout the wheel travel which is why old Z31 300ZXs with sagging rear springs suffer excessive negative camber. Also another design feature I don't care for.

The Miata rear suspension is different as it uses a full lower control arm.

I will throw out that the car this IRS came from is of similar or somewhat greater weight as the mid-year A-bodies. If I have to throw out another hint the dollar comes off the table. :P

Ok, how about a Toyota MK III Supra (or a Cressida from the same years)? Those had a lower link type arm, and an excess of techno-gizmos like variable shocks.

We have a winnah! It's the right bolt pattern and the right width; gets me a 3.91 limited slip differential and vented disc brakes with parking brake. $200!

Now comes the fun part, putting it all under my '72 Dart. Good thing I own 8 jack stands a sawzall and a welder.

Awesome. If possible to know, how much does it weigh and what was the weight of the Supra it came out of? Ring gear diameter or torque capacity? Ratios available? Whenever you have time...

I don't know how I'd weigh this. I'd need a pretty big fish scale and a beam to divide the force. The Supra is supposed to be about 3500 lbs.

I believe it's a 8" ring gear 3.90 ratio, but I have to confirm this. If the body had still been around I could have gotten the differential code and decoded exactly what I have.

That really is cool! That's my kind of project. I don;t get the bolt pattern being right though. What size is the bolt circle on a Supra?

You know, with these kinds of projects on old Mopar A bodies, we are in the same territory that the early lake racers were in when they were building the prototype street rods right after WWII. Those guys were cool. Most street rods based on old Fords since then have just been copying someone else from the past, and don;t really show much imagination. Keep us in the loop.

Most 5-lug rear drive imports including the Mark III Supra have the 5 on 4.5" wheel bolt pattern.

Yes, that's a real 1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo. I had talked my friend Dave into making the car mid engine and we got as far as putting the front suspension and substructure from a wrecked Daytona in the back. The original Turbo I drivetrain is still under the hood. Yesterday I took the Omni off Dave's hands and we hauled the car to my place. Today I took out most of the Daytona stuff and did some trimming on the car and the Supra IRS to remove interfering metal. The grand plan is a slant 6 up front backed by the A904 I recently built and the Supra IRS. Dave thought if I was going to drag race the car (I am) I should use a straight axle, but this is actually cheaper. If I get the structure stiff enough and spring/damping about right it should even handle well.

So does anyone besides me think 55% rear weight is enough?

Should have sold the GLH and chopped up grandmas OMNI. I am no purist, however you could have got some money for a GLH and an OMNI can be picked up for nothing nowdays.

I like the slant, but sounds like a lot of work to not gain much over the turbo 4.
A few years ago I built a 1988 Daytona C/S and swapped in a 2.5L with some inexpensive goodies from Forward Motion. I bent my own 2.5" exhaust and used one stick with no breaks from the turbo out the back of the car. I ported the exhaust housing a bit, added larger injectors, and was running 16 psi. That car was quick and had a lot of torque (for a 2.5L). I broke an axle and replaced with with a longer unit from a V6 Caravan which made it torque steer like crazy. Thats the only thing I didn't like about the car. It was my own doing because it was a 'stronger' set-up then the two short shafts it replaced and readily availible in case it was going to be a common problem. The car got good fuel economy to boot.
