I'm thinking about replacing my engine compartment wiring harness. I'll do it myself but if anyone has tried any aftermarket harnesses and found them to be of excellent quality and a reasonable price, I could be swayed into opening my wallet.

The standard answer is "Painless Wiring". In my considered opinion, purchasing their stuff would be an error. It is overpriced and undermade, and while the "painless" name used to apply (sorta) if you were building a Chevrolet-based hot rod, the quality of their components has dropped like a rock over the last six or seven years.

Better to check with Evans Wiring.

I've watched as friends went down the painless road. nothing but curse words came out of their mouths. Evans looks like they have what I'll be looking for. thanks SSD[/i]

Painless wasn't that bad, in there defense. However, for the money their wires are a bit thin, and there "options" get expensive fast. I don't know Evans but we used another kit that was a Painless wiring kit and it elminated sooooo many electical gremlins it was worth it. I installed on in the Challenger in three days over Spring Break. restomodchallenger.com

the sad part is Evan's doesn't do dash harnesses... so you get good power under the hood, and when it hits the firewall plug all your old wiring under the dash is the next gremlin to show up....

I dont have any gremlins. just figure it's 40 yrs old and could use replacement while the engine bay is bare. I've replaced almost everything else. why stop at the wiring.
