I have read about the 44 mpg /6 Dart or Duster. I have read as much as I can find about the "power plate" which I understand to be a screen under the carb, with the intent of better atomizing the fuel as it is drawn through carb. I also read something about a spacer (billet) that atomized the fuel on the outer edge, or it was injected on the edge of the spacer like the picture below

Does anyone have any definitive information and or pictures on the screen or the plate?
I would like to be able to use this in my MPG Experiment, but so far my searching is yielding older online articles, and mentions on forums.

The only time I've seen a carb screen tested under controlled conditions to see if it improved mileage, it failed miserably. The article has several installation drawings, but given the results of the CARB testing, they mostly serve as an example of what not to copy.

I am going to print that out and read it in depth. Interesting read and concept.

I have heard of that idea several times over the years. That is great that there is some real data available, but myself I will not take the time to read it.

There are often some "proofs" if you will, that trump so many of these bright ideas. These ideas are usually based on incomplete understanding of how things actually work or are a band aid that seems to help but is done instead of actually fixing the real problem.

Having said that, anything restrictive or disruptive to the laminar air flow that you put below a carb, like a screen, will lower the signal to the high and low speed metering circuits. That is the last thing you want and can only hinder fuel atomization where it is supposed to actually be happening. If the weaker signal helps by leaning the mixture, then the jets should have been changed and the carb allowed to do it's job. The place to look might be venturi and emulsion tube design, but not some BS hanging in the path downstream.

Carb performance comes down to balancing the strongest signal possible, with the least restriction possible. A screen just hurts both.

I would spend my time and effort getting it jetted right, or getting a better, more modern carb and getting it set up right. Cleaning up the throat of a carb and the boosters, removing casting flash, can help fuel mixing.

Yup, these screens are amongst the many "magical" devices that float to the top of the sea like a scum of dead plankton after a red tide, every time gas prices go up. Everybody and his brother's housemate's half-sister's housekeeper's crackpot brother-in-law has a widget, gadget, potion, or miracle spark plug to sell you, so you can join the fight against the big, mean oil companies who're maliciously keeping this amazing yet simple technology quiet in the media, blah, blahbitty blah blah.

In three words: They don't work.

In one word: No.

Before you pooh-pooh the concept entirely, I'd urge you to make certain that the screen has been properly energized by placement under a pyramid made from the correct Nepali alloys and oriented to the cardinal points/magnetic flow lines of your hemisphere.

Only after proper preparation can we make our judgements.

gullibly yours,

Joe
