Ok I have my car running - i can get it in and oout of the garage.. But it's nowhere near driving on the road.


Can Someone Give me a screenshot of the VE tuning table - Mine Is a 12X12 Table. (stock motor with bigger valves and a shaved head) stock cam etc.




Also will need help with the Spark advance table.


The car seems to be idling rough - is that due to improper tuning in the Ve table or is that on another dialog.

for now I have the 02 Control disabled in Megatune Because When I enable it it runs more erratic.

o2 feedback shouldn't come in at idle - in megatune theres a screen to where you can set minimum rpm for o2 feedback, put it at say 1200rpm, that way you don't have to disable it and can tune idle without it becoming a problem.

Also, o2 feedback is disabled in any enrichment, including warmup. When tuning idle make sure your out of warmup enrichment (ie, coolant temp is above 160F, and preferably when it hits your thermostat temp).

Also remember an idle solenoid to let more air in during warmup may be necessary.

Once warmup is done, idle fuel is controlled directly by the ve table. Try for 10-12 degrees advance at idle (what ignition are you using again?). More advance will smooth the idle, but require less throttle opening, so you will have to find a balance.

I've posted my maps somewhere here - I can't find them at the moment but try searching by my id and the word map. But honestly, if your tuning idle my map or anyone elses won't help you unless you have the same exact injectors pump etc etc as VE is scaled by the Req_fuel variable which is dependant on all your equipment. Speaking of which, make sure req_fuel is set proper. And also PWM variables if your using it.

The megamanual will get you started off, browse its tuning section. One step at a time, I know its overwhelming at first but end result will be good.

Thanks all.

Some the the Items Causing the eratic Idles and just making it hard to tune all around were:

1. Faulty junkyard coolant sensor - Got a new one from the Parts Man -

2. The O2 Sensor was not calibrated correctly in Megatune.. That took a while to find..

I seem to have a handle on tuning the VE Map for now.. I can drive the car in and out of the garage, so that's good.

The accel Dialog is finicky - Which I should tune last anyway. I' try to drive it around the Block tomorrow.

Also I have some goofy Afterstart enrichment happening that I need to tune on thew hot engine.


Ahh Tuning.

Well, I Can drive the car starts stops etc.. Which is good.

Now I need to Continue the VE map tuning process while I drive.

So If I am going along and the car starts "chuggin" or "bucking" is that an indication of the Particular Highlighted bin in the VE map is too Lean - - ie. the Value is too low??



That is how I have been tuning the VE map - Drive around with the VE map open and what the green highlighted Field as I drive.

Your basic approach is right on. Watch your 02 needle in the tuning screen as you tune the VE table. Even though you do not have a wide band O2 sensor and gauge, you can tell if things are lean or rich by watching the needle in the O2 gauge. I think I remember correctly that there is a gauge for the O2 reading with .5 volts straight up. If it is swinging to the right, it is rich, if to the left, it is lean. Adjust the VE bin accordingly. Mine idles better rich, so just tweek that so your needle swings around maybe at .7 volts. Also, as a heads up, my narrow band sensor read rich. It was telling me things were rich when they were not. I was thus making them lean in an attempt to get the mixture to read l5 volts. I fooled it in Mega Squirt by setting the crossover voltage at .7 instead of .5. This was Lou's idea, and it worked well.

Keep fiddling. You will continue to get things better.

Thanks sam, I actually Have A WB O2 Sensor - So I can tune the AFR Map Seperatley from the VE Map - Right Now Most of the AFR Map is set between 14.0 and 14.7 Just for simplicity Sake The Ego Feedback is at 70% Authority so that tends to keep things in line.. I will Play with the AFR Map and the controller authority after I get the VE the way I want it.

Maybe you said this, and I missed it, but I would leave the feedback loop feature turned off while tuning. I have yet to turn on the feedback loop on mine, although I could likely do so now. The O2 sensor will try to over-ride changes you make, so you can;t see clearly the effects of your tuning. Just set the authority to zero while tuning. Like I say, maybe this is what you are doing, and I missed that comment.

Thanks for that thought! I might have to re-tune VE Completley now..

I had the Feedback Set at 70% But most of my afr Map was around 14-14.7.

hey your making very good progress! I have lot's of maps posted on how to TBI with my latest being very smooth untill about 4000 cause I've not wanted to tear my motor / not needed to go higher. However, one thing I might say is leave that freakin EGO correction off untill your done or if at all. That thing has caused more frustration, it was about two weeks ago I finally gave it the axe and it as been a alot better. Also, if you run the megatune I found it the easiet to have someone drive and just use the Q and W to rich and lean as neccessary. The stock accel/deccel isn't bad though I kicked them down just a little bit. Also, if anyone can show you how to get the Autotune to work cause most of my points are "outside the window" for crusing stuff. Good luck keep us posted.

Yes it's Getting there -- I was originally having problems with the EGO feedback - So I have it off for now and Also Accel Was giving me problems As well .. I got those Issues worked out so it accell's Good for now and I can tune just the ve for a Bit.. Accell was kicking in waaay too much at first Which I tried to fix in VE -- I over richned most of the map.. I am working back to a better map now.
