Decided to pull the plugs and do a compression test today. Here are the numbers:

1. 152
2. 155
3. 159
4. 149
5. 142
6. 146

This was done on a warm engine, ran 2 hours before the test. I didn't put any oil in the cylinders, I figured the numbers couldn't get much better if I did.

So, it looks like my compression rings are good, if the oil rings are bad would I still have good compression and blow oil? Or could it be the floating valve stem seals on the intake valves (as opposed the the seals that press on the guides)?

Also, don't buy Autolite 26 plugs (see other thread in Social Corner).

Yes, it's possible for the compression rings to be doing their job, have the oil rings not doing well and pumping oil. If the oil rings are just clogged up Dan's Special Recipe engine flush could help. Floating valve stem seals work fine and engines so equipped often use very little oil.

How loose were the valves in the guides of your current head?

My latest experience with burning oil lead me to pull the head as I leaky exhaust valves presented themselves when confronted with the air hose. I may end up in the same boat as you, but I'm going to have a valve job done with new guides and see what I end up with.
