Surely but slowly I am swapping from the column shift 3 speed to the 833OD.

I had bought a 3 speed floor shifter. I was going to do that for a while.....glad I didn't! There is no place to mount the shifter! This is the non synchro 1st gear.

The floor hump I bought new has a huge gap at the rear. It looks different from the one in my 74. Other than that it fits good.

My slip yoke doesn't seem to match the OD splines. I do have another drive shaft that came with the OD.

I hooked up the shift rods, sometimes it shifts fine, sometimes it hangs up in 3rd or 4th. Is that because it is sitting still with no motor? Or do I need to open this thing up?

AFAIK it is the Hurst factory Competition Plus A body. No shift stops or grease fittings. I do have a pickup truck mechanism too.

I did notice the throw out bearing lever is different than the the 3 speed.

Is it the same bearing? I need to buy one.

I am getting pics as I go.

Spray the shifter mechanism down with lots of WD-40, it may just be dirty.

Running a trans through the gears repeatedly with the engine not running is a great way to break the shift dogs too.

Dirt is to put it moderately. IMGTX came by last week and we disassembled the shifter. It was full of red Alabama clay!

He said it looked good, greased it up and we reassembled it.

Couldn't get reverse to work! Turns out my reverse rod is from a truck. (we think) I could get reverse to engage by going over and down next to second! I pulled a reverse lever off a 83 truck OD from the shed.

It took a pipe wrench and a vise to make it work. Seems ok.

I had to cut the exhaust coming from the rear header to clear the reverse rod. :(

Day off work and it is 100* out! Gonna be hotter tomorrow!

I'd recommend Kroil over WD-40. After using that for loosening up rusty fasteners and lubing various mechanisms, I've chucked my cans of WD-40. Kroil is worlds better.

No affiliation, just very happy with the results...

Mopar used the same shifter until they ditched the slant six in 1987... so the truck A-833OD shifter is the same as the 1975, 1978 Volare, '76 Dart Lite... only the stick changed from truck to car, and later models had 'hurst' engraved into the stick....

Hopefully kroil is OK with plastic... as the hurst shifter has a plastic 'washer'/spacer to divide the plates that one of the shifter mounting bolts goes through... the mechanism gets real sloppy without
it to put some tension on the plates...

Plastic? I don't remember any plastic!

I do know it is missing a metal piece that goes across the front of the top of the shifter.

Except for when Ma used Inland shifters again in '77-'78 (and possibly longer) on F-bodies- I pulled one from a '78 Aspen and used the rods with a Hurst shifter box, after some slight mods.

Rug- are you sure the reverse lever on the trans is pointing upward?

I'll check it tomorrow.

The setup worked where reverse was over and down next to second.

Switched levers and put a few bends into the lever and it seems to work fine.

He went home and check his parts and found his A body reverse rod didn't hang down as far as mine. Myabe even vlear the exhaust!

It iwll be fun driving this to the muffler shop with open headers.
