hey every one! This site has tons of info! but I need some help..

i bought a 63 dodge d100 step side with the six but I dont even know what size it is... Plus the carb doesnt work and is missing pieces as it was attempted to get rebuilt by the owner.. At this point i'm looking for a carb that works and I also need master cylinders for the brake and clutch as They are both shot and leaking heavily....I'm having a hard time finding parts but I cant wait to get this thing running!! Any info is appreciated

Welcome!

The good news is that most of the parts on your slant six engine will interchange right up and down the years from 1960 through 1980. There are notable exceptions, but parts are still relatively plentiful, so don't worry too much about finding them. We'll help!

Carbs - If you're missing parts you're probably going to need to buy a replacement carb. Rebuilt ones from auto stores are a gamble, some work, many don't! You can either buy something off eBay and rebuild it yourself (do a search on "Slant 6" or "Slant Six"), or else buy a new in the box carb from Slant Six Dan (on this site), or even replace your manifold and install an aftermarket carb.

Consider converting your brakes to a dual master cylinder setup.

Yes, those headers will likely fit your truck... but slow down just a bit. Making power on a slant (I'm assuming that's your goal) is somewhat difference from making power on a V8. You can "throw parts" at a V8 and still end up with enough power to smoke the tires. Slants will perform well, but require a carefully thought out plan to do it.

There are also other headers available, as well as Dutra Dual split cast iron exhaust manifolds.

Get it running first... get the brakes together before registering it... then let's talk performance!

I have a '64 Sweptline from which I removed most of what you likely need to get you engine going. at least. For starters I will be glad to give you an excellent 1bbl carb for the shipping. I just gave someone a 2bb all way across US from me and shipping was $12, for instance. I have several good master cylinders if you want one or two. Also, some new slave cylinder rebuild kits...I assume you have a slave to fork on passenger side?

Do you want a spare crankshaft, motor mounts, oil pan,...almost anything, let me know. Most of my stuff has been hot tanked and blasted, then painted with POR15.

I have a '63 swb d100 myself. A 99% probability yours is a 225, look on top of cylinder head above # 1 plug hole,outside of valve cover. 22=225,17= 170. The first thing I learned about my truck was that the motor wasn't original,it had been swapped for a late '60s,early 70's vintage,an automobile(as opposed to truck) engine judging by the sump. I only hope that it was done correctly as slight differences in crankshaft flange/flywheel exist between early and later editions. Truck engines would have been a pale yellow color in '63 with front sump pans I believe?
Immense amount of knowledge not to mention good will here.

Hmmmm, early block with a later style valve cover? I thought that only 67 later valve covers had PCV. Maybe Im wrong, but that is definitely an early block, and is likely to be the original engine, or at least close vintage. (3 core plugs on the side of the engine)

It's got the low mounted starter too...

Is that two single brake master cylinders on the firewall, or is one for the clutch. Anyone?

Should be one for the clutch. I can't fathom how you would manage to keep that adjusted correctly if they were both brake cylinders.

just wanted to bump this up guys. I got the motor to start up and suprisingly it runs pretty smooth.. Just wanted to say thanks to rock for the parts. I havent even moved it from the spot its been in cause i been a lil tied up with finishing a 72 el camino but Already have had a few folks try to buy the truck from me just from seeing it in pics lol... Had one fellow from europe supposedly offer me 2,500 for the truck but i have to politely decline...done know what it is about this truck but i already have a love for it and have not even drove it....

Anyhow I do have some plans for it though which i should execute this winter...I just picked up a viper motor and 6spd and its either going in this or my 96 ram...If it goes in the 96 then i'm considering droping the 3.9v6 5spd from the 96 in this... Ahhh cant wait to stop dreaming and get started on this thing!
