I will show my ignorance here, but I came across a reference to a Mopar Action article printed in August 1998 talking about bolting on a junkyard part-throttle kickdown.

Did slant sixes get this? What is the benefit? Anybody have a copy of that article they could scan?

I have the article in pdf format. I'd e-mail it to you if I had your address.

The part throttle kickdown just allows the trans to downshift without having to force a WOT kickdown. Makes for less lugging and peppier performance without resorting to manually downshifting.

I´d like that too. My Satellite had newer tranny with part throttle kickdown before. I changed a rebuilt older tranny to it, and it is a bit sluggish without it :? It came in ´72, right?

The part throttle kickdown was introduced in certain models and engines starting in 1967. Not every car got it so you really have to look at the valve body to know for certain.

Some six-cylinder cars got it in late '67, all six-cylinder cars in '68, and V8s in '70. The feature can be easily added to any '66-up transmission not originally so equipped. It can be added with difficulty to a '60-'65 transmission.

So if the transmission I am working on is a 1974 727 slant six transmission it should already have part throttle kickdown, right?
