As it turns out the only gaskets I have are head, valve cover and fuel pump. Almost all my other leftovers are small block. I have all the bottom end hard parts. Go find a Fel Pro KS2103 and we'll be in business.

well josh, i have been thinking, not very hard but anyways. i really don't wanna go thru the trouble of borrowing an engine since look what happened to this one. your awesome to offer and thank you very much.

i woudl rather just have help getting this one pulled and on its way to ceej's house. the pistons look good and so does most of the head. i would like to clean the valves but i don't know if i will dammage anything so i am leaving them alone. i have the head painted, it was hard to mask off the rocker arm and stuff but i rigged up carboard and printer paper with masking tape and gave it many good coats of gloss black. it looks awesome! :D

anyways i do have a truck that runs (thanks josh for your help with that!)so it's not like i'm on foot or anything. and we could prolly have that engine together in a weekend @ ceej's.

 i need to know exactly what parts i need including every gasket. this is my frist engine rebuild and my frist time taking apart a slant six.

and thanks again for any parts donations, either hand them to TH0R since he is @ ceej's a lot or hand them to ceej. that way we can figure out what we are missing. and let's get started! :)

ok i have a few questions, i know i have to drain the oil from the engine. but i just put it in 4 days ago along with a new oil filter - a good one two.
so i am assuming that neither is not re-useable. also do i have to pull the fuel pump? it's pretty new so i wanna make sure it stays in good shape.
should i pull the dizzy?

ok i just checked what gaskets i have, i have the following brand new in package:valve cover,2 sets intake/exhaust manifold, water pump,thermostat,egr,2 bbl carb base gasket.

i am wraping the painted parts in tissue paper and boxing them up, also all the screws/bolts are going in little baggies so i don't loose them.

the head is painted and wow i am amazed in teh quality of the finish/paint. it really turned out nice! lets get the block pulled so i can start on the k-member and engine compartment ( stock paint or closest to match with black k-member and steering box )

here is todays progress:

if you had a bad bearing it not worth the chance of pouring oil and filter with metal in it back into the engine

today i pulled the fuel pump and dizzy. i finished the paint on the intake manifold and it looks good. kinda weird that i ended up using 3 diff colors of orange on the parts since i am color blind i only noticed it when i had all the parts together and in good light. i had so much greese and oil mixed in with the hair product (dax) in my hair that i had to give my self a haircut to remove it all. even dish soap or bronners soap wouldn't cut it.

i removed the copper sending line to my oil pressure gauge. so all is left is un-bolting the motor mounts and pulling it out. i was thinking of rigging up somthing to the garage and using a come-along wench to get it up and out, but then i realized that i had no way of getting it to my truck or lifted in the bed for transport.

how heavy is a block minus the head?

About 2-300 lbs... 70-80 for the crank, and about 135+ for a stripped block with no coolant or oil in it...

Don't for get you also have to unbolt the tranny and support it, as well as pulling your torque convertor bolt or you'll have to 'jack'/bounce the motor a few times to get the convertor off it's shaft...

you can see the 3 diff shades of orange in this picture, but it will still look awesome with a black block & head.

All he needs to do is pull 1 last bellhousing bolt, and the motor mounts. I already pulled eveything else.

well by some miracle, i actually had enough to get a complete engine gasket kit. woo ho! i have been scrubbing the engine bay and the stock paint; fenders and firewall looks pretty good. would it be a good idea to shoot some clear coat on it to protect it? tomorrow i am painting the engine mounts and k-member and stuff that i don't know the names for.

Midi,
looking good! pulling a motor for the first time is fun..kinda.
Has the cylinder head ever been reconditioned? If not-now might be a good time to do a valve job while you have it tore down. I understand your funds are tight (mine are too) and I don't know what a valve job cost these days...just a thought.
Have fun with your rebuild.
Todd

If the engine compartment paint is in good shape just clean it and wax it.
