Are these available as little longer? I´d need ~7.15" rod.
We can make longer versions of this rod but they will be custom pieces which are more expensive.

Tom
How much? How long it´ll take after ordering? I don´t know exact measurements yet, I probably start building the engine at winter.

Price will depend on quantity. One set of 6 it will be in the $650 range. It will take about 10 weeks to complete the rods including engineering plus 4 weeks to get them here. We can reduce the 4 week shipping time to about 4 days if we air freight them in. Air freight will run $40 per set.

Tom

Tom, what about a price for the non-custom set with pistons? Thanks

MJ

I just spoke with Tom at K1.

He says the rods will be in stock in about 2-3 weeks. They are being machined now.

He is checking with Brian on piston availability timing and sizes available. I asked him for 3.485" (88.5 mm) or 3.505" (89 mm) bore for mine.

He said the final cost with pistons, pins, rings, and rods with bolts would be under $1000 and possibly as low as $900. I gave him my VISA number for a set and he said it would not be charged until they ship to my house.

Tom will call me back tomorrow once he has confirmed piston info from Brian Nutter at Wiseco.

Cheers,

Lou

Thanks for the update Lou, I'm definitely interested in a set and would like to see what they end up with in terms of sizes. I was looking at a 3.485" bore for the 2.2 piston, but could go up 1mm if needed. I'm not sure my block is ready for .100 overbore, so that would need some checking.

Thanks again

MJ

No offense towards anyone intended, but I wish more slanters had the wherewithal to dyno their engines. I'd be really curious what kind of power increase would be made with this piston/rod combo, all else being equal (or are there too many variables anyway?). This package is a lot lighter than the standard long rod/hyper piston combo, is it not?

Just wondering what sort of improvement you guys are expecting (aside from the durability of the forged pistons and stronger rods).

That's a good price. I hope he considers (a package rod price) since I had to purchase my pistons seperately because I had a custom compression distance.

Most everyone that is going to the new rod & piston combo is changing everything up so much it probably would not be a good comparison.

My guess is 5 HP or less, all else equal. Maybe rings will drop friction losses for 10 HP gain?? A bunch of 5 HP increases can add up. Mostly it's about durability for me.

I doubt ring drag will kill 10 horse, especially compared to 2.2 pistons. They have narrow rings anyway.

Unfortuantley it's like windage and balancing, you won't neccessarily see the differences in horsepower for each item. However, put in combination with several other hot rod pieces, you'll have a more reliable engine. Unfortunatley it's out of my price range for a quite a while, but my hat's off to K1 on coming through. It's nice to see someone doing this for the slant guys....
