Ya, count me in on a valve cover, but, not an intake, changed my mind.....Think I will see what this Hurricane intake is all about!!! There are actually some on ebay right now, take a look:

Is there someone that can hook up a PCV valve, baffles, etc... for me? Maybe I could buy it and have it just shipped to ya and then get it shipped to me after the install? Or are there detailed instructions on a "How to do it yourself"?

Well, as good an idea as it is for a supplier to update its products to match the needs of its customers, when there's just one supplier, negotiating for an improved product is difficult. For them to update the cover, would require a change to some very expensive tooling, which I doubt would be an option. Or if they agreed to such a condition, it would likely drive the price up substantially so they could cover their costs of tooling up front. As you said, we aren't the small-block chevy crowd, and as such, we've learned to make things work under unusual circumstances. I've spent a lot of time reading he posts around this and other forms for the slants, and we're certainly an innovative crowd when it comes to making things work. Like I promised a few posts ago, as soon as the used cover I boughts shows up, I'll take a little time and mod it per any suggestions you folks have, and get the process down to something as simple/quick as you can get...sure, it won't look factory, but all that will be inside where no one will see it.

So, negotiations might get you a better product, but would likely kill any price break we were attempting to leverage through a volume purchase. I'm only offering a tutorial on valve cover mods because I personally feel that the oil separator/pcv combo looks a big cludged together, and I'd like a more finished-looking product. As for a more modern 710 cap, it's probably going to be a matter of a quick pass with an appropriately sized drill followed up with a quick couple cuts with a hacksaw, and a bit of file work...if you tape it up first, you won't even need a lot of buffing to make it look factory.

I found this looking around the internet...The picture is wrong but the part number is right for an off 5270 4 bbl intake. The price is a full 130.00 less than offyparts.com

i think SSD may be right, it wouldnt hurt to ask about the baffle and PVC provision but i dont mind doing my own to save money. If Offy were to agree to the mods, I'm sure the group buy list would have to be drawn up again after the price they qoute is posted. Maybe you could get a quote for both and have a vote. I'm still in for a valve cover myself either way.

Thanks dietz, talked to Pharmboy and we agreed to give AAA till the end of the week to respond. Pharmboy suggested we call Offy direct on our group buy , I will check back and talk to him about this in a day or so. Right now it is a waiting game.

Looking at the Offy v. cover, it looks to be made from a simple "match plate" type casting pattern, with-out any seperate cores.
If this is true, adding some small bolt bosses, right under the PCV / breather areas would be a simple pattern change. (drill some holes in the pattern)

With the addition of 4 small bosses under each of these openings, tapped holes could be added for easy baffle installation.
The only "engineering" would be to set the new boss heights so the added baffle(s) cleared the rocker arms, as well as the bottom of the PCV valve or breather.

I would like a nice valve cover on my slant/6. I like the offy model but its gotta have pcv and baffle provisions as that is what is on the car now. Like Dan said and I remember from having an offy valve cover years ago quite a bit of oil gets sucked up into a pcv if you try to drill a hole and add one without the baffle. The car takes a hit on performance too. The HP dropped a bit on mine back in the day.
Here is a little crank in the works. If clifford offers a valve cover with pcv provisions and baffles maybe someone shoud be working them over to get a group buy price. Just my opinion but if 20 to 30 guys are buying the offy and try the pcv route the web site will be busy with q and a about how to fix a problem related to this valve cover. I am not knocking it by any means but this cover was designed for early slants and on later ones the cover might not be so user friendly. JMO but if a way can be reached for the mods I am 'in like flint'.

Called Dan Marvin at EAS again this afternoon. Talked about several things including pcv. He said while he wasn't able to speak for Offenhauser he thought that any mods to existing patterns/molds would not be likely as Tay is not in the habit of changing these things. Other than being an Offy distributor, I asked how he seemed to have a somewhat close relationship to the Offenhauser company. Dan said that his Grandfather was the head engineer for Offy back in the day and his name was Ollie Morris. Said he designed many of Offy's intake manifolds.

I asked Dan that if we ended up going with him if he would give all those wanting a intake his 5% car club discount(since our numbers are not quite high enough for a group buy) and he said yes! I will call him back in a few days - earlier if we hear from AAA Marine about intake pricing and 4bbl linkage problems etc.

Not so much worried about the PCV issue as we can modify it ourselves. Here's how we handled ours on the roadster. Can't remember what pieces we used but it turned out pretty nice. Best picture I have here at work. We can take some close ups if anyone wants them.
