Here is the deal - it is a Valiant...............with a318

I inherited the car from my dad - we use it as a caravan tow vehicle so torque and good fuel consumption is a must - the way to get it on a carbed motor is to fit a smaller carb - smaller chokes better low end torque awfull highspeed consumption

The engine is fitted with a - dont curse Projection 4Di and the ecu has craped out - replacement commander 950 is ..........very expensive

Option 1 keep the 4Di hardware, fit the Haltech F10x - it is affordable and a straight plugin

Option 2 Turf the lot and go back to a 600CFM carb - which I already have -

and spend the money having the heads ported to get more go

Opinions? Fellow slanters DONT desert meImage

In your position I might be tempted to go Megasquirt.

I second the Megasquirt. You can then get control of ignition timing. Otherwise the F10X is a fine fuel only controller.

Has an electronics tech looked over the old Holley ECU to see if it's repairable? Could be something simple and cheap.

We get emails pretty often from customers who are looking to run Pro-Jection hardware with a different ECU. The hardware is pretty straightforward to deal with so it is not too hard to substitute a different ECU for the original controller.

I megasquirted my Holley 670 2bbl TBI and it has worked very well. Stomped a lotta cars on the road course and good mileage and power.

one requirement of mine is that it should be able to handle a 4 wire IAC motor - just want to read up on it and www.megasquirt.com is NOT the site I thought it was

If you go Megasquirt, you would need the MS-II to handle the 4 wire IAC.

The correct site is http://www.megamanual.com for Megasquirt information.

Hi Mat

With my config - what do I need and what do you recommend - the v3 MSII is the way to go by the looks of it

Yes, that would be an MS2 V3.0 if you're building it from a kit - I'd probably recommend a V3.57 if buying it ready made, but either of the MS2 versions will work. The biggest question would be whether you want it to control ignition; either one would work with an HEI ignition, but you'd need to special order one if you want it to control the coil with an internal ignitor.

What bothers me as that the whole setup costs as much as a Haltech and they have an agent over here......on the otherhand if I build it I would be able to fix it if it dies.......and in the process learn about efi

I work for DIYAutoTune.com myself, so I'm not exactly an unbiased source when it comes to Megasquirt dealer recommendations. :)

In your case, I'd probably get an MS-II, Stimulator test board, and a short pigtail harness to make an adapter to splice it to your current harness. You'll also need cables to communicate with your computer, although these are off the shelf items and you may already have them.
