Does anyone know where I can buy new pigtail sockets for the side marker lights? I went to start working on my lights and those were pretty well rusted and the wire was well chewed up and corroded. Thanks -Dan

Okay, next question: What exactly do you mean by "socket"? The bulb socket is swaged onto the sidemarker housing on the round '68 sidemarker lights. You can replace the contact plate, tension spring, and lead wire (NAPA Echlin LS-6227, Standard/BlueStreak S-61), but if the socket cylinder itself is badly corroded so the bulb can no longer ground, then you'll need new sidemarker assemblies. They're available, though costly.

Interesting...means some previous owner has removed (unswaged) the original sockets, ground-out the holes, and put in snap-in sockets. You see why they weren't done this way from the factory...those sidemarkers are in a very splash-prone location, so a fully-sealed socket/housing assembly does a better job of preventing the kind of corrosion you've experienced.

On the other hand, this mod makes it easier for you to fix the problem. The socket you need is an Echlin # LS-6225 or Standard/BlueStreak S-56.

Haha how do you find all this stuff? Thanks Dan! I have to go to napa tomorrow any way to pick up some wire so I'll check to see if they have them.

Well, it helps that automotive lighting is my job.

You'll want to put in sidemarker bulbs with corrosionproof nickel-plated bases; the original type plain brass bulb bases are just begging for quick corrosion. Get these ones if you want extra-bright sidemarker lights, or a less-expensive ten pack of these ones if you don't care if they're extra bright — the brighter ones have a longer lifespan, too.
