I just got another "Val Update" from my friend in Australia. I've mentioned before about sending him a '64 Valiant 2 door post car with a Slant 6 and 3 on the tree...

It's back from the paint shop and he's starting on the reassembly. He had the bumpers, door handles, etc. all re chromed and had all the tin work polished. I can hardly wait for more pictures.

He has done some really cool and custom stuff to the Old Girl. She's destined to be a vintage road racer and will probably be mixing it up with Cameron Tilley's car(s) at some point.

I'll try to have Geoff write something up to send to Seymour. It really is one schweeeet project.

Why is it that all of the cars I sell seem to go to better homes than I gave them? Maybe I should switch to Phord or Chebbie.....

Geoff has sent me many pictures of his progress over the years, but I don't have them available to me here in Iraq. He has done some really trick stuff and made many of his own parts.

If I can get him to send (re-send) some of his pictures I will try to figure out how to post them.

His car is the American version '64 Valiant, not like Cameron's Aussie versions. He has several Aussie Mopars, but "The Val" is the main project.

Ok, there was a'73 Valiant safari for sale here recently, located in Kiruna (!) thats way above the polar circle, no idea how, and especially why that aussie car has wound up there, unfortunaley it lacked engine and trans.

Have for years heard rumours of a Valiant Charger here with the E-49 engine! its confirmed that the car really is around, but pinning it down is like chasing a ghost...

Cameron will be at North Wilkesborro next weekend for that race. That surely is one beautiful piece of work! The car won't be there, but the builder will.

Geoff knows of Cameron and reminded me that his project isn't quite as fancy or professional as Cameron's, but from some of the pictures he has sent me over these last five years (his 5 year anniversary with the car was 28 July) he has done some serious work to her.

He built many of his own parts like deep sump, baffled oil pan, shifter and other linkages, even his own heavy duty brake drums! He sent me pictures of his custom headers, connecting rods, pistons, etc.

He had the old girl painted white with blue Chrysler corporate racing stripe to match the car Scott Harvey raced so successfully in the 1964 Monte Carlo series. Pretty cool stuff.

I'll be putting together a story with pictures to send to Seymour for SSRN.

Luckily, Geoff still had most of our emails back and forth over the last five years and re-sent me most of the photos.

It's turning into a really cool race car. I'm putting the story together to send to Seymour and will post something on the Forum as well. Hopefully I'll be able to post some of the pictures.

It was a complete, every nut and bolt, rotisserie type re-do with a full roll cage, gussetted K member, etc, etc...

He's given himself 12 more months to get it done. I'll try to get some photos posted soon.

Here's the latest progress on her....

I have made a bit more progress on the old girl, during the holidays I finished running the battery cables, and fuel, vacuum and brake lines down the centre of the tunnel on the inside. I also made a fuel block that houses a regulator, fuel pressure gauge and three outlets for the webers. These jobs took me ages, but look really good. I am fitting an aluminium firewall in the boot (trunk) behind the back seat and am working on cooling ducts/vents for the brakes. I have not done any more on the engine main girdle but will get back to it soon.

I am still aiming for a 2006 completion just when in 2006 I don't know.

I should probably move this post from Social Corner to Slixer's Gallery or Virtual Dragstrip at this point.... Darn, how does that work again?.... :?

Thanks for the update, Rob. Sounds like a great motor, car, and guy. I bet he'll see some Tilleys at road racing events at some point.

Cheers,

Lou

I just got an email from Geoff. The old girl hit the road under her own power the other day! Here's an excerpt from his email.

Is this the car in question? Took these pics myself at a show a bit over a year ago. Very nice thing it is too.

That's the girl! :D

Geoff certainly put a lot of work into her. I'm so glad he is finally able to drive her. He sent me those same pictures right after the show. I'll get over to Australia some day and see the results in person. Thank you for posting these pictures. I can never seem to find the time.

Just wonder what the idea is behind those very long intake horns - shorter, tapering ones with a large diameter rolled lip gives maximum power with those side draught's :? :?

Cept for that the car is a looker indead Well done that man :D 8)
