That's good, not likely then that you would have jumped a tooth. Sounds like the cap shifted some how...but not knowing how much you were off doesn't give us much to work with....hope you just have a bad wire going to the coil from the distributor or power to the distributor.

the same thing just happened to me. but im pretty sure that my dizzy just turned and my timing chain didnt skip a few teeth. because my hold down bolt wast tight.

The cam sprocket is steel (I think). It's been a couple of years since I did the rebuild. I would have questioned the sprocket being nylon, and I like to think I'd remember questioning why I'm putting in a plastic part.

I purchased the NOS which will arrive this week, so Saturday, after I install the new distributor, I'll do a detailed examination of the old. I'd really like to find a problem with the old distributor. It would put my fears to rest.

I'll post what ever I discover.

I know its a different train of thought, but this same thing happened to me today. It would explain why messing w/ the distributor would fix it for you, the wires would be moved and a better connection would have been made.
