I finally got around to swapping out my 1945 for a 1920 carb. The 1945 when I removed it turned out to be a 1940, and a very dirty one inside. The 1920 is clean and rebuilt. What a difference it makes, the car runs great. I can't say its the different carb, I think a good cleaning would make the other one work as well. I am now a happy slanter.

Glad to hear the change was positive. The 1920 is such a simple carb, I was hoping you find that it would help. It was one of the best things I have done to my ride for now. A four barrel is in the works.

I love the 1920s. I agree that they are simplistic, to the point that I can build my own custom one, and actually have it work!

Im an only child here but my 1945 ran great but the bbd does better on the freeway.

I hated both my 1945 and 1920. :shock: The super six solved that! More power and better gas milage (went from 13 to 17mpg city) Now I love my BBD! :D

For all you 1945/1920 lovers, I have one of each that I don't need.

Dusterguy- try adjusting the metering rods on your BBD. This is an often overlooked adjustment that really affects performance and fuel economy.

How? I think we tried, but im not sure if it was right. My grandpa didn't know that we wern't supposed to take the screw out of the vac step up piston, we put it back in, but the screw does not tighten down. Could that be why?

That might be the problem. You are never supposed to take that screw out.

To adjust the metering rods, follow figure two in this picture:
