I seem to recall reading somewhere that there may be a heavy duty gearbox version of the powersteering boxs. Anyone know anything about these, what cars they came on, functional difference, how to differentiate them from normal duty ones?

I'm not sure what you mean by heavy duty...the 70's-80's power steering boxes found in cop cars were 'Firm Feel' units that had better feel to them and a bit better handling...most are available in the Dodge Diplomat/Plymouth Gran Fury Cop Cars...they also can be ordered from Firm Feel (I think they have a web page that's like www.firmfeel.com.)

So they were only availible in cop cars, and nothing else? All other cars (/6 to 440's) got the same powersteering box?

They also came for sure on '79 300's, maybe Magnum Gt's.

Flaming River has new steel boxes for the A, B, E body cars. HotRod or Street Rodder should have an address or web site.
