has anyone ever put a cold air intake on there sl6? i'm ordering one that will fit i'll post pictures of it when i recive it and also picts of it installed.

anyways just see'n what u guys think of this mod.

If you want this, grab a factory '76-up thermostatic air cleaner with cold air snorkel duct. You can route the duct to the round vent hole you'll find below the battery pan in your '64. Most of what's advertised as "cold air intakes" are garbage designed to do little but separate money from dumb bling-bling kidzzz. Keep in mind, the air filter is there for a good reason: to keep dirt from destroying your engine. In many/most cases, these aftermarket "cold air intakes" come with pathetic excuses for air filters (K&N, etc.) that do an OK job of keeping spiders and ham sandwiches out of the engine, but any dust particles smaller than that sail right on through.

we had a customer that did a tro cold air intake for a his ricer. he drove thru a huge puddle 14" deep or so and filled his engine with water.

i'm looking for somthing mounted higher up and i am mostly looking for the look that i will get with the chome pipes and colored filter. and since we can get really nice kits ...

what the hell i'll try one!

I did mine about 2 years ago and have lots of pictures if your interested. It is very simple and super clean. It's worth about a 1/2 mpg or more depending on the outside temp. Cost was about $10.

Well, if you really want to ditch the air cleaner and the possible heated air intake, you could find a fuel injection throttle body with the same diameter bore as the carb on your slant and run the air intake hose/box air filter setup use don fuel injection cars.

Personally, I second Dan's suggestion. Simple, effective, cheap.

I have a K&N CAI on my Dakota. I am happy with it. It did improve mileage and performance, plus made it a ton cleaner underhood.

I also got it from a guy who provides some sponsorship for my racing. If I had to pay full boat I probably wouldn't have done it.

Don't know if it will improve mileage on your Slant, but you probably will pick up a little MPH in the 1/4. An unsealed scoop was worth about 1 mph on my '66.

Who has the link to that guy's webpage where he did flow tests on a bunch of different air filters and found that Napa Gold air filters flowed as good or better than a K&N and actually filtered smaller particles?

Your intake adapter came out very nice!

I am still using a stock radiator so I was able to put the pickup right next to the battery so it is a little higher and gets good ram air effect.

I'm in the planning stage on this, but since I'm moving the battery on my 66 Valiant. I Took a look around the local wrecking yard.
If you have to battery location to work with, a Dodge Dakota air cleaner looks like a good match. And it would take the air from just behind the left headlight.
Hook this up, pop in a K&N element and I think you would have a pretty good cold air set up.

If you want looks:

My Dart's intake piping includes some of Spectre's higher end aluminum piping sections (it's not the chrome plated plastic stuff you see on the wall at Pep Boys, and is a bit more expensive). For a normal blingtastic cold air intake, you can simply clamp that together. (In my case, I expect I'll have to weld it together by the time the project is complete, as it's holding boost. I also plan to have it powdercoated tractor red if I ever clean up the engine compartment.)

For practical, cheap, and functional, I'd go with Dan's option, a snorkel air cleaner with flex hose.
