What can I do for cheap upgrades for looks, performance, MPGs, etc.? I have to rebuild my trans, so I was thinking shift kit. Maybe an orange ECU? Bigger rear tires? Im looking for suggestions so any help is appreciated! :D

Im looking for a cheap set of headers, anyone have any? Also, what ever happened to the 6 into 1 headers? Did they quite making them?

Step "number zero" (i.e., before you do anything else): sit down and plan out specific goals. Not in terms of buying this part or making that mod or spending however many dollars, but in terms of exactly what you want the car to do that it doesn't do now, or what you want it not to do that it currently does.

Certainly not a bad idea. A TransGo shift kit is a good pick.

They're junk, and even if they weren't, there'd be no performance advantage. If you're looking to make improvements in the ignition department, look into recurving the distributor and maybe upgrading to HEI.

Cheap headers = lots of headaches I cannot imagine you need or really want. Better to save up for Dutra Duals.

What carb are you currently running? Holley 1920? What kind of mileage are you getting with it?

My goals, I don't have many. Just a better looking car and better performance/MPGs, How big a tire can I go on the rear of my car?

I guess no on the ECU then. How do I recurve my dist.? I don't really want to fool with the HEI.

I want headers because im not inclined enough to modify the rear section manifold for dutras, and just don't have the money for both a front and rear section of the dutras.

I have a Carter BBD super six on my car. The gas milage runs anywhere from 17 mpg to 20 somthing mpg, depending the temp, how much my foot weighs that week, and just because it wants to.

Hey, what about power brakes? What booster could I use?

What do you need power brakes for? My '74 stops great with non power front discs, and it worked for my 85 year old grandfather before he gave it to me back in 1984

I want power brakes because its hard for me to transition from my car to a newer one.

Im working on getting the NGKs, I have the cold air cleaner, and I have done the fuel line mod. After I rebuild my trans, Im going to put the best fluid you can buy in it, but what is the best trans fluid? How do/can I get the dizzy recurved?

Power brakes wont make the car stop better. It just makes it easyer to push.

And easier to drive, if that's what you're accustomed to.

Personally, I can't stand manual brakes, even on a slant six A-body. I'd rather have Mopars's overboosted power brakes than 40-year-old manual brakes in this day and age, surrounded by the other idiots on the road. I find it much safer. To each his own.

The best fluid is Chrysler ATF+4. It's less costly from Mobil than from Chrysler.

There's only one option from Mobil in ATF+4; it's "Mobil Super ATF+4". Truth to tell, I've never bought it. I buy ATF+4 from the dealership, because whatever town I'm in, I can usually find a friendly parts counter to give me a "Club Discount" or whatever they want to call it. Retail is too high from the dealer. Looks like I'm a little behind the curve on this one; here's a list of licenced ATF+4 from other makers. Looks like Valvoline and Pennzoil have an ATF+4 as well.

Buy fluids, supplies, and parts because they work well, not because they have a cool name and come in a purple bottle.
