Personally, I'd get the brass one. However, as far as I know, there are no brass ones available for the 1920, only nitrophyl. I'd take my old one with me and look it over real close.

Slow down a sec; there are a few things wrong here.

First off, there are no brass floats for the Holley 1920. Not sure what you're looking at, but the link you're providing just goes to NAPA's (not very useful) front page.

Secondly, the Nitrophyll float in your 1920 will not slosh no matter how overweight (gas-soaked) it is.

What's the condition of the rest of your carb?

actually turns out the baffel plate wasnt in my carb for some reason, and the needle valve wasnt in either. (THOR came over) so im going to go to his house soon and grab some extra parts. i will have him make a post here later with a little better detail later. also not sure why the link does that but oh well, it was just a link to a picture of the different floats.

Right, but I wanna see which floats they were showing you. Can you navigate again to the page you looked at, and keep track of how you got there from the NAPAonline front page, so I can duplicate your navigation and arrive at the same page?

ok heres what you do, go to the online catalog obviously(select parts, then buy parts online) then choose 72 plymouth valiant 225, then choose fuel and emissions, systems, choose carburetor kits then its on the first page, ill try a direct link again but i dont think it will let me. the floats it had on the page were a brass one that looked like to small round brass containers for a bbd i think? the nitrophyl one looked alot closer to whats in my 1920 atm. hope that helps

Ahh...that's a pretty quick mystery to solve. The brass float is annotated "Carter carburetor" and "C-2" (which means Carter 2bbl). That's the float for the BBD on the 318, not the Holley 1920 on your slant-6.

Yea it was kinda messed up when I got there. The needle valve was missing because it broke on him, and he hadn't put another one in there yet, just threaded the fuel line in. So full volume from the pump was what came spraying out the vent tube. I didn't realize this at the time since I was checking the voltage to his coil (which is abnormally low... hmm no wonder it wont start!) and whilst doing so, I told him to crank the engine for a few seconds so I could read the cranking voltage to the coil.

It gets about 5v in RUN, and 7v in crank... hmmm... bad wire connectors somewhere... or maybe fusible link.

In either case, as he cranked, the gas came gushing out, and just as that occured BACKFIRE! and suddenly he has Holley 1920 Flambe. I instantly told him to get water, and whilst doing so, I started blowing out the flames. I managed to get them out within about 5 seconds. I was tweaked because flames+car+battery in car = BAAAAD!

I had him pull the bowl, and at this point I realized the needle valve was missing, along with the baffle. I snagged one of my spare needle seats and installed it, and then installed the baffle to the bowl, and reinstalled the bowl with a little gas resistant RTV, since a gasket was not readily available, and the old gasket was toast.

It's going to cure until tomorrow, at which point, I will do some wiring magic to make the coil work, and then reset the timing...

Wish us luck!
