Summit Racing sells a muffler under the name of "Force".....It's what I have on my slant. I really like the way it sounds. I've taken it on 3+ hour trips.......interior noise is nill.....the wind noise is louder than the muffler at cruise, but at idle and acceleration, it's a nice, *deep*,(and I say deep), rumble that sounds like the car should. It's louder than a turbo muffler though...so whatever you like. 40's are loud......and the 44's are awsome. :) Have ya'll heard those yet? $$$ but nice....

ESP47, your flowmaster 40 sounds quiet and is quieter than the old glasspack? Are you running dual exhaust, what mods have you done on your slant? I only changed my mind from the Flowmaster 40's because of many saying that's it's very loud in the cab and rediculous outside...but, if it's not, then i'll stick with the Flowmasters :D Isn't there a "thrush" version of the flowmaster 40 that is way cheaper? If there is and it is exactly the same in sound and all, than that route would be the obvious choice....we like cheap.
It was one of those cheap cherry bomb red ones you see at Kragen. That muffler started out sounding decent and 6 months later it just went to crap. The exhaust was down right embarassing sounding. I changed to a super six and it still sounded bad. After I put a 2 1/4" exhaust and the flowmaster on, it just has a real nice sound now. Honestly I can't really hear it in the cab unless I'm paying attention to it. I've heard quite the opposite from the guys on here so I don't know if the flowmaster would be right for you. My engine has about 12,000mi on it as well as a super six and HEI. Otherwise it's totally stock.

Back in college I had a '72 Charger with a 340 4 speed, it had duel cherry bombs on it. Now that was a sound, I don't think I would go to far like that today though. Also had a VW Thing with a header and glass pack muffler. Drove that from CT to FL for spring break, another one to noisy for mature ears.
Hoping to put on the 2.25 exaust and muffler on my Dart this winter. Down tube is rusted out at the muffler joint so I now have an excuse.

Has anyone ever tried these Cherry Bomb Extreme mufflers? Im considering the Thrush version of the flowmaster, and this.

I wonder what it would sound like?

When stating the diameter of the exhaust are people talking the I.D. or O.D. ? I measure 2" on the O.D. of my 1980, d-150 truck exhaust which seems like an oddball size. I'm super sixing the engine and debating whether or not to replace the exhaust pipe.

Should be inner diameter. A 2 inch O.D. would be a 1 7/8 I.D. pipe, a stock size. A good rule of thumb is a single exhaust should be 2 1/4 or bigger, duals should be 2 inch or bigger.

Normally it's OD when saying you have 2.25", 2.5"....

With headers it's OD too (1 1/2, 1 5/8, 1 3/4....)

ID is 1/8" less......

(remember, bigger is better, so they advertise the bigger number)

Dusterguy 225,

I run the Thrush version of a Flow Master 40, $29.00 from Jeg's or Summit. It is fully welded and made of heavy gauge steel. It sounds great! Not too loud either and I have the back seat out right now. It is very sweet and only has slight resonance at 30 mph. I don't drive at that speed much so it's not a problem. At 55 to 60 mph it sounds very mellow and sweet. After that speed range then it lets you know your moving some air.

On long trips it's got a nice sweet sound and my wife thinks it's fun. Besides that it keeps you honest about not pushing it too hard. You immediately know when you are, Mileage is great! 25+ mpg.

Is there a stock 2-1/4 exhaust you can buy that will fit on ,say, an A-body slant six, or does it all need to be fabricated? Especially the down tube that bolts to the manifold outlet. Go fish, right?
