Well th saga continues.Got my head sealed to where I was confortable with it.I have been having a problem around 4850rpm.Motor go flat.Installed a vaccumm gauge and tried it.0 vaccumme at wide open throttle.Got good fuel pressure now (10psi,had a bad pump).I'm runnning a complete mallory ing system triggered off one set of point in my dual point dist.Connected both sets and by passed the ing control box.Bang, right up to 6500 rpm's.Went out fo test and tune today and hit drive at 6000 rpm and lost all oil pressure.Damn oil bypass adapter lost its threads.Lost ALL oil at 6000rpm.Shut it offf as soon as possible but thinking I caused damage.I was running synthetic oil and the crank has been nitrated.Should I replace the adaptor and install oil and try to fire it up or just bite the bullet and pull the motor and check the bearing?

Oil bypass adapter? Is this a sandwich adapter for an oil cooler?

If you were spinning 6k RPM with no oil pressure I'd pull the engine and check the bearings. You could save yourself a crank repair and a lot of cleaning.

No it was a TransAdapt. It threaded on and then there are the 2 lines that relocate the filter. The threads tore right out of it and all the oil pumped out.Big problem.

When it comes to critical components like this avoid anything and everything that's die cast.

The bearings are scuffed in seconds.....I sheared an OPD gear last fall and shut the motor off and coasted as soon as I felt it go soft. I still had to turn the crank and replace the bearings.

Last time I took out the crank I pulled it out the bottom without even removing the head. You can leave the head on and the pistons in the block. It cost $300 for crank and bearings + a new pan gasket.

I think I'm going to have to pull the head ,the complete lower end was balanced and blueprinted and I'm going to want to have the cam checked as well as the lifters and the rockers and shaft, oil pump ect...Can't really cheep out at this point. If it shut right off and was at a lower rpm I proably wouldn't go all the way in.Can gaurentee one thing, the be a shut-off/low oil swithc hooked to the inigition before it gets fired back up!Problem is the guy who built this is real sick and not doing it any more.I don't really trust the other local guys and it gets over my head.I don't have access to a lot of the special tools and equipment required to do this to the level it was before.I may have to have it send out to maby Doc or Mike Jefferys
( if they are intrested).First I going to pull it and check the bearings and crank and see what that looks like.I post some photos once I have it out. :( :(
