I am getting ready to put a 2bbl on my dart, till I get all my turbo stuff located, I'm using one from a 318 that I had laying around, can't find any of my sl6 2bbl's, only the manifolds. My question is if anyone has put the 318 2bbl on, and what I might need to be watching for, just figured I'd see if someone else has gone through the tuning steps with one to save myself some time, I'd like to drive it once more before the snow flies!

This is somthing of a sticky issue. You canput a 318 BBD or Holley 2280 on a slant six and get it to work, but, at the minimum, you will need to modify the V-8 choke linkage or install a manual linkage.

There is a small debate about the propriety of putting a V-8 carb on a slant six. I seem to be the only one arguing that a dedicated slant six specific BBD is better than a v-8 BBD, most eveyone else believes that the v-8 carbs are fine. What I do know is that Chrysler felt that the differences between the carbs were great enough to put out a special tech manual detailing the difference between the v-8 and slant six BBDs. I can e-mail you a copy if you want.

Put simply, the V-8 bbd is not calibrated for the slant six. Even Chrysler admitted that using the V-8 bbd would cause poor fuel economy and performance.

I say try and track down a slant six specific carb.

Interesting, I'd love to see a copy of that service manual. I suppose I'll keep searching for the right 2bbl. How do I go about identifying these, I have a bunch missing tags, so I'm not sure if one from that pile might be right. I have at least 2 SL6's in cars that have blown engines, but that had 2bbl's on them, I just have no clue what I did with the carbs.....

It is a 7 MB manual that SlantSixDan emailed me. Send me a PM with your e-mali and I will send you the manual.

The easiest ways to tell a slant six carb from a v-8 carb are the choke linkage and the throttle plates. Slant six carbs have no holes in the throttle plates.

Also, see this article: http://www.slantsix.org/articles/supersix/article.htm

I don't think I have any carbs with holes in the throttle plates. I think some of my oldies are off of 273's.

I have no tags on any of mine. :(
