Heck with all that rearend stuff. How much do you want for that 8 track tape. Iron Butterfly rules! HaHa
I will let you have that for the sum of $325 US dollars. :) Since that's what I paid for the car. ;) ;)

I ordered the Green bearings last Saturday from Mancini Racing - they should be here today (I hope I hope) so I can put it back together.

I guess I need to get the driveline shortened a couple inches too.

Finally got the Green bearings pressed on and the axles reinstalled. Only hard thing left to do is get the driveshaft shortened.

Well, I shortened up the driveline by 2 1/4" and it fit perfectly. I test drove it last night and today. The 3.55s sure does make a difference. There's almost a sensation of acceleration! ;)

The new axle cured a plethora of handling ills. Having an axle tube ready to depart from the 7 1/4's center section introduces some variables, I guess.

Had an interesting time today. Went out to test out the car with the new rearend and gears. Got it up to about 100-105 or so. Let out of the gas and BAM! Massive vibration and noise. I'm thinking one of my Maypop tires shredded. I get it stopped without further incident, check the tires, all OK.

Turns out the brand-new front u-joint let go. I guess I missed seating one of the clips properly in the cap. Fortunately it held together without pole-vaulting me end over end.

The yokes weren't damaged so I got a new u-joint in and made dang sure the clips are all in for sure now. Drives smoother than it ever did.

This race-car building is exciting
This one stayed together :)

I added an Addco swaybar while I was at it:

I lost a rear u-jt in a warmed over 318 Duster I used to have. I was making a half-run on an on-ramp, when it let go. It felt like a grenade went off. It lifted the back of the car up about a foot. It flayed the outer skin off both of my new turbo muffs. It'll definitely pucker you up.

So, left foot on the brake, throttle to the converter stall, then go. I notice the 904 is shifiting at 4000 RPM on its own. Is this OK (stock engine) or do I need some more kickdown?

4,000 RPM for a 1 bbl is about right
If it has a bigger carb, it may ET better with a little more RPM.
You just need to get it on the track and try some different shift points and see how it goes.

It has a Super Six on it. I was thinking about 4500 should feel better. What's my limit on RPM for a stocker?

Don't bother taking it past 4500 as the power drops off dramatically above about 4000, although you can safely go to 5000-5500.

I used to shift my Duster at 4200. It would rev to about 4800, but it would actually slow the car down to rev it that high. (Stock motor, 2bbl, header and 3.91 gears)
