Can anyone tell me how to decode the date of manufacture of my 1977 Plymouth Volare? I need to get a new fuel sending unit but I understand that I will need the manufacture date because some early 1977 models used the smaller hole for the fuel sending unit on the gas tank. Thanx from Shallotte, NC. David

Look at the Vehicle Safety Compliance Label, which you will find on the driver's door or doorframe.

Nothing on the door label about manufacture but I found a plate in the engine compartment that has coding which I need help with.

Look at the door label again. It reads, in part, "This vehicle meets all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards on the date of manufacture shown above". The date might be expressed as a month and year, or it may be expressed as an "MDH" (Month-Day-Hour). See what you can find.

If you post a clear, full-frame photo of the underhood dataplate or an accurate transcript of its contents, we can probably yank the build date out of that, too.
